Teammate disconnected and I got an abandon penalty

My sister and I were playing ranked. After getting downed and waiting for our teammate to recover us we noticed the red disconnected symbol by their name. We left the match since no one was there to revive us. We both received a 10 minute abandon penalty. If a teammate disconnects then other squad mates should get hit with a penalty. Its a waste of time.
