thank you EA and respawn for making launch royale 14 days long
(cross-posted from my steam account)
I would like to personally thank EA and Respawn for making launch royale available
not permanent
not for one season
not for one ranked split
not for a month
but a whopping 14 whole days
speaking to friends and some players i've come to the realisation that apex is essentially 2 games with different player bases. there's probably a group of people who played the earlier seasons, another chunk of players (the current majority of players) started after most of the original respawn staff had left, while it's the same game at its core they just feel very different, with a different vision. I don't think current apex is bad, I'd like to think that players in the early days and current players simply enjoy different things.
I'm definitely a fan of the first apex. Yes it was janky, but playing launch royale gave me rushes of adrenaline I hadn't felt since the game originally launched in 2019, even with the now higher level players making the game feel rigged, losing still felt thrilling because the game was quick and intense. I realised that my love for the game hadn't changed at all but the game had changed instead (and most of the people working on it apparently).
yes they put watson in the 1st season for some reason, yes all the funny bugs you could play around with were gone (gibby octane frog, caustic bunker door lock, supply bin rocket), and yes they brought back the ungodly day 0 wingman. but it felt fast and fun, and I noticed a lot of the players playing og royale weren't the ones you'd see in regular games.
I just don't see why they couldn't just keep it longer or even permanent with so many playlists being part of the game now, and seeing that they'd essentially have a 2nd player base instead of cannibalising on their current one (I've barely touched the game in 3 years, and all the newgen players I know hate launch royale) I also doubt they'd pull a fortnite and make it permanent down the line seeing as it barely moved the needle thanks to the 9000 IQ move of not marketing the new season at all as if the game had just come out again (surprise surprise, it's been out for 5 years now) so thank you to EA and Respawn for saving me the hastle of wasting 80GB on my c drive, and thanks for a fun 14 short day trip down memory lane.
