Yeah, the matchmaking will sometimes throw you a curve ball but in my experience at EU servers, this doesnt happen TOO often at least. Seems to me that you sometimes will be matched a lobby "one tier above" your normal lobbies, especially when you start to approach promotion into next rank, like when you are Plat1, Gold1, Silver1 etc. I also got killed by the numer 2 current Predator when I was still Platinum1. But like I said; I dont think this happens too often when you reach platinum even though bronze-to-gold seem to be much more mixed.
But what I tried to say to @Midnight9746 , but perhaps a bit badly and unclear. The current rank systems RP gain/losses seem to be designed to take smurfs and a wide matchmaking into consideration. To summarize; there are MUCH more total RPs given out than lost in any given "bronze to gold" lobby. If the matchmaking would be super narrow with a perfect SBMM then this type of RP gain/loss ratio is way to generous. In such SBMM, then there should be given as many RPs as it is given for any give match so that the equally as many players are demoted as are promoted. So yes, even if you are currently "silver3", you often will be matched against goldies, but on the other hand will you also have a positive RP gain only by not jumping hot because of the generous RP system.
@Balladalidila it was happening every night I played, mainly on London servers, but also belgium and other euro servers I tried (posted photos previously) that's why I stopped playing ranked.
Bronze to gold wasn't too bad by comparison.
Sadly the match making system just dosnt work and I think it's beyond tinkering to fix. Might as well throw it out and either start again or just make all the matches random.

What do you mean with "just doesnt work", if I may ask? I mean, evidentially some players manage to get out of platinum (based on what you wrote, I just assume that you stopped playing ranked in platinum) but then get hardstuck in Diamond4, going in and out of Diamond4 to Platinum, whereas some player, like me, manage to grind to Diamond3 solo and even higher with premades, whereas some other player manage to get hardstuck master whereas some reach the top and become predators.....
I just dont hope you mean that "just doesnt work" is the same as "wont let me advance any further", because thats just normal in any competitive games. Everyone has their own peak rank where the player rank distribution is quite normal distributed (at least more so than before) which is good.
So imo, the rank system works. It works much better now than previous season when literally anyone that wasnt a total noob could reach Platinum or even Diamond4. Diamond is supposed to be a high elo rank which it it moreso now than before. But I do agree that the experience isnt the best. For me to reach Diamond3 as solo Q, I bascially had to avoid fights and all costs and just go for cheezy third parties. Not so fun and fulfilling tbh.

@Balladalidila not sure how you would expect me to be able to compete in a match against pre stack pred/master teams, in one case all were top 500 preds, much less win. Nor do I see how that has anything to do with my abilities. I am most definitely not of a pred or master standard, so how would I be playing against then be the advertised "Players of a similar skill level"?
It appears that I am indeed fodder....

You have to look at your ranked journey as a series of matches and gaining or losing RPs over all these matches, and not judge the entire ranked system over those 1/10 matches that is totally unfair. I mean for starters, you seem to only remember the unfair matches and forget all those matches where YOU were among the top ranked in that lobby.
Just like I said before; how can you say the entire system is broken when many player who also are "not of a pred or master standard" manage to get out of your rank? Perhaps your current rank is your peak rank? Nothing to be ashamed over. There is also the possibility that you lack in certain aspect of your skill set as an Apex player and therefore hit a brick wall instead of "gradually" start to struggle. I see it all the time; players in silver/gold who hide the entire match to maximize the placement RP gain and therefore keep advacing through the ranks without gaining matching fighting skills. Then they reach Platinum where the RP cost takes a leap and hiding is a much less effective strategy to gain RPs and they find themselves in a Plat lobby with Platinum level hiding skills but actual silver fighting skills. Thats why I always tell my frriends NOT to rush through the low rank lobbies. Play aggressively and get your RPs from fighting so you dont fall behind in fighting skills as you rank up.
So what I mean is that the ranked system, specifically the RP gain vs RP cost ratio is designed to compensate for lobbies of player of wider skills than in games like CS and LoL for instance. So you cant really blame the system. You can for sure have opinions how unfun it is but in the end, everyone play under the same rules.
- Midnight97463 years agoHero+@Balladalidila I guess a better system would be giving players who smurph a reason to play on their main accounts. Most of them are doing a rookie to pred grind, and having a system where they could do that without disrupting players would be nice. Although, I'm unsure how that would work. You've also said that Respawn stated that smurphing is allowed, just not farming easy kills and such, although when you think about it, you sort of do that when you're using a second account to rank grind, at least at first you do. I'd prefer not to see low levels in my matches, especially when it says they're level 20-50 and they're a masters player.
