If you can't handle the internet, don't go on it or just turn off your mic. When I was eight and the internet was "play at your own risk", I've gotten death threats and laughed it off. People truthfully need to toughen up. They're not physically hurting you, they're just words. Words are only words, until you personally make them out to be something more. It's a funny story actually, some guy just flipped me off on the road today, for some unknown reason. I'm guessing it's because I was going slow, but honestly there was traffic, so that makes no sense. Anyway, I literally smiled and laughed in his face and then I just moved on with my day. Be like me and do the same, you'll be fine. The more worked up you get about it, the more the bully wins. Bullies hate when what they do, doesn't effect you.
Hope I taught you a life lesson, it'll help you moving forward.

The thing is, I would probably have laughed like you did because it happens to me some time on the road, of course… (God! I need ESL courses... LOL)
Those events in Apex Legends just took me by surprise. I’m not used to that. I've never played coop PvP games before. I have no problem with reporting and muting. I just wanted to vent about it and—most importantly—know how to report such players.
Mute, report, and keep playing. I can agree with that.

Venting escalates the situation, because you may get replies from the wrong people. Also another thing to understand, while you can go ahead and report everyone who treats you poorly, you need players to make a game be alive. The new generation of gaming, people created a this word called 'toxic', which essentially applies to everything someone doesn't want to hear, which is very broad. This has resulting in having people muted or permanently suspended, which pushes players to go find another game. While you may feel toxic people ruin games, you'd be surprised that the lack of players literally makes games die. As long as someone isn't hacking or cheating in some sort of way, mute appears to be the best feature honestly.
Otherwise, people will just report to try and get others banned for merely anything. It's a sad thing to see and I have personally reported people not because I got offended, but because they said so called 'toxic' things which I knew that would get them banned. I've actually done that in several games and have benefited from it. This is why you need to be aware of how you handle situations, because people will use it ways you otherwise wouldn't believe.
