Urgent Balance Issue - The L-Star is Ruining Ranked Play

I want to start by saying that I’ve been a dedicated Apex Legends player for a long time, and I truly appreciate the work you put into keeping the game fresh and exciting. The constant updates, legend balancing, and weapon tuning are what keep Apex at the top of the battle royale genre. However, I have to address a major issue that’s completely warping ranked play right now: the L-Star.

Simply put, the L-Star is broken beyond reason. It’s dominating ranked lobbies to the point where every squad is running at least one, if not multiple, L-Stars, and it’s making gameplay feel incredibly frustrating and unbalanced. The weapon is shredding through health bars so quickly that it barely gives players a chance to react. It doesn’t matter if someone is a new player or a well-known, high-level competitor, the L-Star is erasing people at a rate that feels completely unfair.

The issue isn’t just that it’s strong, it’s that it has so few downsides. Unlike other energy weapons, it doesn’t rely on traditional reloading mechanics, and its overheat system is extremely forgiving. Combine that with its insane damage output, generous mag sizes, and the fact that it’s relatively easy to use, and you have a gun that’s warping the meta in the worst way possible. It’s not just viable - it’s the weapon to use right now, and that’s a huge problem.

Ranked should be a test of skill, strategy, and teamwork, not a contest of who can grab an L-Star first. At this point, the weapon needs serious changes. If the intention was to make it more viable, the tuning went way too far. The best solution would be to either:

  1. Remove the L-Star from ground loot entirely for this season giving the game time to rebalance without its overwhelming presence.
  2. Put it back in the care package where it used to be, ensuring it remains a powerful but rare weapon, instead of something that’s flooding every match.

I love Apex, and I want to see it remain competitive and fun. But right now, ranked feels less like Apex Legends and more like “L-Star Legends”, and that’s not the kind of experience that keeps players engaged long-term. Please take a serious look at this issue and make adjustments before it ruins an entire season of ranked play.

Thanks for your time, and I hope to see some balance changes soon.

Sincerely,

A Concerned Apex Player
