Wattson ideas

I made a post about how I don't think wattson is in a good place so thought I'd throw some ideas out there I have for her.

1. I think her tactical should have 2 modes you can toggle between

- mode 1 is the ability to fence as she normally would

- mode 2 Is she has the ability to throw down a node that spawns a single pylon, that can block doors like caustics gas, or be thrown down where ever you wish, that causes slowing, and shock damage when enemy's enter it's radius, lasting until they exit the radius , leave the line of sight, or it gets destroyed.

I feel her fences aren't always great option with how the new kings canyon and Olympus play

2. Her ultimate I like as it is but, I don't think it should regenerate enemy shields, and it would be nice when her ultimate destroys projectiles, It should act as a little charge for it, and for a short time give a slight boost in shield regeneration.

3. Her fences to not take grenade damage. Her fences are torn apart by grenades and shot easily enough as it is, they take a bit of time and good places to set back up and in fast paced scenarios they not easy to get back up. Depending where you put her ultimate it doesnt always block incoming grenades also, which defeats the object of putting it down sometimes.

The idea I said of a throwable node, would also help eliminate this as in fights where you don't have much breathing room if your fences get destroyed you could throw a node down quicker than a fence

4. Her fences to give a small amount of shock and slow damage if enemy's stand to close, dealing a increased slow and damage if actually passed through.

Wattsons fences are easily spotted and avoided and it's becoming rare if people actually pass through them. People will happily stand right up against them to get a line of sight at the node to destroy them, or to shoot at you through them, if they did a slight stun, and damage it might put people off standing right up against them for so long.

5. Low profile to be removed, this isn't wattson specific tho. I think it should be removed from all legends that have it.

These are a few changes I feel would work quite well with wattson, and make her slightly more versatile and hopefully boost her pick rate by the general apex population and not just a option within pro play, where she is not often picked anymore either

  • @JimmyLad993 Pretty awesome ideas, but I have some things that might be easier. Node health increased from 25 -> 50 so Caustic gas can't break it in two ticks. Pylon life increased by 5 seconds per ordnance intercepted (meaning it gets reset a bunch when sucking up Gibraltar/Bangalore's airstrikes). Node cooldown reduced. And finally, Fences have a small "surge field" where they deal damage to enemies like an arc trap from the Titanfall games.

Oh, and this is just me, but increasing the visual noise made by "enemy" fences by 15% so it's harder to see someone hiding behind them would probably help a ton too.
  • @JimmyLad993I love the idea of single nodes, it would be great for blocking doors and I also love the radius to slow or zap someone it would make using it alot more fun and she might actually be usable in casuals you could place one by a door then when someone entered they would get zapped similiar to caustics gas traps like a sneaky surprise

I also want low profile removed from the game because wraith and pathfinder have recieved bigger larger hit boxes and wattson/lifeline need big kit reworks

Note: as far as I know (could be wrong) Wattson should be receiving a toggle for her fences to turn visibility on/off at the mid season update unless this is pushed back til season 9, they said they want to wait and let this balance out and then decide if Wattson needs anymore changes to her kit after that but personally I would like to see her fences get a health as someone else suggested they said 50 but 45 like ramparts walls might be fine I just hate that caustics gas barrels, grenades, fuses tactical, etc can instantly destroy everything and it takes way too long to set them up...

I think with a single throwable node it would help make her be able to be more aggressive and play faster, instead of having to set up one spot.

I think everyone should have low profile removed personally!

And I agree with the health increase of her fences I think they are to easily destroyed.

The toggle fenced idea I do like but I'm not sure in practice how useful it would be. You'd constantly have to be monitoring your fecnes.

I think with how the new maps are and how they play her fences can be very situational and not all that helpful sometimes.

I think it's a shame she is mainly only picked in pro play. They aim in pro play is figure out end zone and camp a spot for as long as you can to try and get to end zone. Most time in pubs or even ranked it the games don't play out like that so she just isn't as useful

  • @JimmyLad993 I can't see the throwable node as a good thing, and I never really have. Her pylon is neutral, so fencing after placing a pylon would become impossible in the radius of the pylon, where it is intended to go. The reason for not making them throwable was probably that in the first place. She is supposed to have the upper hand once that pylon goes down, but she is too easily countered after it is placed anyways.

@Red_Fox_Skulk i honestly feel a throwable would work well with her. It would be like caustics gas but instead of gas electricity.
The trouble with her fences they take a while to set up and placement can't be a dodgy sometimes, and they are so easily destroyed with such a long cool down.
In a lot of situations your more likely to die trying to set up your fences.
Where as caustic can just throw a trap and move or keep running.

-The maximum fence placement should be 24 fences

    -And visual effect by 15%)

-6 fence slot (temporary) once your ultimate is placed

-Wattson should be able to shock the floor

    Worth 4 fences

(Active 30 seconds, every 2 seconds 10 hp dmg)

-Her ultimate should intensify the damage by 50% when her fences are  inside the pylon radius

  • Tactical :

    - Reduce the number of pylons to 6.

    - Increase the number of maximum pylons Wattson can carry to 6.

    - Allow Wattson to toggle her fences on/off using H key. This is the same key that Mirage can use to change his mirror's behavior.

    Reason:

In most of the situations, Wattson "nests" can also be easily spotted by enemy players because of how bright her fences are. Normally a Wattson has to place a fence somewhere where it either slows a player's advance, prevents a player from getting too close during fights, or take enemies by surprise. and there's also a problem that this playstyle brings: most of the time a good player doesn't engage Wattsons team inside a Wattson nest, they seek a better position within the ring and force Wattson's team to come out of their spot to be killed off. It seems that the devs don't want this camping behavior to flourish or be rewarded. so Wattson in her current state is doomed to be kept at sidelines.

Wattson in her current state is a little bit of a mess. On one hand it seems that the Devs are afraid that her kit can be exploited by pro-Wattson players to the point of breaking the game, but on the other hand Wattson's very static (pun) and extremely defensive kit is throwing new and even intermediate players off. This is Apex Legends, and Apex Legends is supposed to be fast-paced. Wattson doesn't need 12 Pylons to create her perfect electro-castle that will then be abandoned after the ring moves in 95% of the situations.

by reducing her total pylons to 6, Wattson will no longer be allowed to create a large electro-labyrinth. but she wouldnt need to do so anyway as with this suggestion she can quickly create the trap setup she needs for her team to exploit. in this more offensie-minded setup, Wattson can quickly set up fences and disable them to prepare the area for a possible ambush, or choose to protect certain chokepoints and prevent enemies from passing through them. she will only have 6 pylons active at a time, but she can also carry 6, so setting up shop in a new location will be much easier and faster.

Toggling fences on and off can serve as a great method of catching enemy teams offguard and dividing/distracting them during teamfights. Currently the only way this can be done is to have a teammate either be close to a fence and toggle it on when they move away, or have Wattson place a pylon as soon an enemy crosses a chokepoint and both of which are not feasible. so to be able to manually toggle your fences on/off will give Wattson a great quality of life improvement as well as unlocking a more dynamic playstyle for her.

Moving on to her passive :

    Spark of Genius :

    - after 6 seconds of not taking damage, This passive will generate 2 shields per second for Wattson AND her teammates who are in the vicinity of her. does NOT stack with her ultimate's shield generation ability.

    Reason:

The 1 shield per 2 second is more like a spit in the face. I don't even understand the point of it and why devs even bothered adding it. if something is added to the game it needs to be added wholeheartedly. Wattson sees her teammates as her family, so it makes sense for her abilities to be tailored to benefit both her AND her teammates. With this passive Wattson can give her teammates some small support in a passive way. not too OP to break the game and cause a huge difference in fights, but still decent enough to have. Which brings us to her ULTIMATE.

Ultimate : Interception Pylon   --->  Generator Pylon :

    - Remove the ultimate's projectile interception ability

    - Instead buff the ability's shield generation.

    - Will now generate 5 shield per second passively for all allies that are in it's vicinity. does NOT stack with Wattson's passive.

    Reason:

This helps Wattson have a more defined role in the game as opposed to just tacking her ultimate with a whole bunch of random effects that are too confusing to use. Projectile interception, while very useful, is also very niche. However, the usefulness of her ult also prevents the devs from buffing the shield generating effect of her ult. So instead of tacking a niche ability into her ult and not working on something as generally useful as shield generation, why not remove the niche ability altogether from the ult?

Removing the anti-projectile capability of the shield frees up Wattson's kit to lean more towards supporting her teammates via shield generation. By buffing the shield generation aspect of Wattson's entire kit we can give a more supportive role to Wattson, meanwhile by reducing the number of her pylons AND allowing her to carry more pylons and toggling her pylons on and off we can promote a more active and engaging Wattson playstyle.

    NEW SURVIVAL SLOT: Projectile Interceptor

Instead this aspect of Wattson's ultimate can be moved to a survival slot. by adding a new survival equipment to the loot table the devs can allow non-Wattson players to be able to negate incoming artillery/grenade barrages by planting an interceptor system on the ground. the range of which will be shorter than Wattson's ultimate. Still it becomes handy in fights where ultimates or grenades are expected to fly down from the sky.

Lastly, this part might be the boldest and least likeable part of this suggestion: Move Wattson to support class instead of tank. even though her Pylons still give her a decent zone control, but Through this change Wattson can mostly shine as a support/backline legend.

-The problem was never her fences was noticable
Her problem was her fence had a long cooldown
    and she needed tweaks accordingly

    Wattson Buff ideas:
    -Longer fence radius

-Front side of the fence should be 20% harder to see through

-Canister is 20 secs? Wattson fence node should be 10 sec instead of 30 sec

Ultimate pylon: The pylon should give more shield regen

    And/OR

Fences can be switched on and off
Enemies that are too close to the fence are slowed down

Fences that are reinforced with Ultimate Ability eject Blize, inflicting 25 damage on the enemy
As mentioned, reduce the cooldown significantly

Passive: LG-97 Thunderbolt is a weapon from Titanfall 2 that fires an energy bullet. You could allow Wattson to shoot such a projectile with a close combat attack. You give her an energy indicator when a shot is ready. Maybe it's a daring idea.
