@Sir_NamedG7 can compete close if you land your shots nicely with a double tap and strafe / outmaneuver em. Feels so freaking good right now despite the nerfs, still one of my favourite guns. Finding it easier to land 2 double tap shots than a full mag of an R99. Especially if you can land them as double head, or 1H : 1B shot.
I also totally agree that positioning does matter. Had an enemy team on a slight cliff and aiming up at them, they were terrible, downed 2 of them twice, but the cliffside gave them just enough cover to sneak an ally backup during a loud gunfight and then clear us out afterwards.
- 6 years ago@Sir_Named Technically speaking every gun should be able to compete with every gun in the hands of a skilled player, regardless of the scenario. That's the kind of balance I think most players would agree they want. To be able to use anything.
Two skilled players, R99 and G7, close range, who should win the gunfight? Two unskilled players? The answer should always be, the player that uses their gun and character better, not necessarily "this gun wins the fight because close range". Sure it should TECHNICALLY provide the advantage to the player with the R99 because its a laser at close range, but it does require that person to actually be able to hold target. That's also how we somehow get point blank / close range Kraber shots..... which are disgusting..... - 6 years ago@Sir_Named The way I see it every gun should be able to compete technically speaking, but every gun should have an area where it is better than others.
Like you guys said, R99 should excel at close range along with other smg's, PK point blank to mid with choke and shotguns close range, snipers long range. AR mid range and so on.
Though the problem is, this isn't the case. Alternator doesn't really compete enough if at all. RE-45 is good in a skilled players hands, but doesn't provide terribly significant perks. P2020 only good with HP but otherwise painful. Bique amazing with HP if u land all 3 pellets, even when they have slight amount of shield left, but without its not quite there (barring the fire rate boost, the 60 pellet damage from April fools was a crazy temporary buff tho).
What shouldn't happen, is for the meta to stay as it is, seeing as many people are complaining about stale repetitious gameplay endgame of players using the same old guns, same old strategies, to varying degrees of success. And to some extent the dev's agree, with legend balancing, the PK nerf a while back, and the fact that gun balancing changes occasionally. - 6 years ago
@Monhulio It seems reasonable for classes of weapons to be of similar use within the same scenario. Ie a R301 VS a Havoc should come down to individual skill, not who had the best weapon. I disagree that differing weapons should be usable in any situation, like a Longbow shouldn't be able to compete with an R99 in close range, but neither should an R99 be able to compete with a Longbow at distance.
