what is the purpouse of ranked?

matchmaking sucks on pubs so much that im playin ranked only(untill s10 i played pubs only) and i just had a geme in ranked where my teamates was silver3 and bronze1(lvl30) and im gold1. they got lazerd in 2 sec in first fight and i got destroyed 10s later by 6k kills player on lifeline (i have 6,5k overall). so dear(not) devs why there are ranked tiers if they mean nothing? check this to see how much sbmm makes me engage with the game https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Feedback/Working-as-Intended/m-p/11266824#M92427 its sad that awesome game is desroyed by idiotic matchmaking.

  • @Niedzwiedzio Skill-based matchmaking is flawed. Flawed in concept and design, but most especially flawed in execution. The thing to remember is that no matter how flawed it is, no matter how badly executed, having some sbmm is still preferable to having none at all, especially in a game with a wide skill gap. Whether you consider this game skill-based or luck-based is a different conversation. But assuming that most of us believe skill plays a significant role, then yeah, bad sbmm is better than nothing.

(And if your reply is, "I'd rather have GOOD sbmm," then I'll explain what I mean by "flawed in concept, design, and execution." In a nutshell, there is no possibility of the existence of good sbmm. It can't exist in the real world. More on that later if required.)

  • @reconzero you made me chuckle. and my reply is "I'd rather have GOOD sbmm" if ea worked as hard as you try to sound smart we would have GOOD sbmm.

When new players are allowed to play against seasoned predators on their first day, then "flawed" is a serious understatement.

If they would put a little bit more focus on matchmaking instead of designing another rare skin for a mozambique that no one wants, people would play the game more often and with a lot more joy. Now the devs just prey on the replayability and the addictiveness. Which also works quite well by the way, but in my opinion it shows how little respect they have for our gaming experience. It's all about the retention and the numbers.

@Niedzwiedzio Okay, so let's say some MIT/Stanford genius devises the perfect skill assessment and matchmaking algorithm. Let's take that as a given. It will still only work if players are honest and not seeking to undermine everything that sbmm is supposed to do. This is what I mean by, "Can't exist in the real world." You can't stop sandbaggers or smurfs or people who use modded controllers. And those are just the worst offenders off the top of my head. It only takes a handful of them to cause exactly what you're describing. And we have way more than a handful. So unless you're suggesting that Respawn is capable of figuring how to ban someone based on their undetectable evils - I guess just by reading their minds? - then I'm not really sure what it is that you're suggesting.
  • @Niedzwiedzio Honestly... there isn't one. Its the same exact pool of players, no IQ teammates VS smurphs/cheaters/full stack preds who shouldn't even be in the "skill based matchmaking" lobby que.
  • @reconzeroits simple question what is the purpouse of ranked when in suposed golden lobby i have bronze tier noob as a teammate? are you ea employe shiling for them? im playing this game since s0 and didnt have as much problem with cheaters as im having problem with mm loop (since s10) that is around 7 games in a row with 0 kills or assist then 1 game easy mode 10 kills. and i dont want perfect mm(i know its imposible) but it can be good. other gamec can pull it off so why not this?

@Niedzwiedzio I've never found any game that could do a credible job after about three months, once the huge initial population starts to decline, once new playlists start to fracture the remaining player pool, and once the cheaters and scumbags set up shop. I guess that's why I'm not so hard on Respawn. But if you've found games that do it better then I'd say you're definitely a step ahead of me. And sorry if it seemed like I was trying to minimize your frustration. We should all be frustrated even though I'm still convinced there are no good solutions to the problems.

@MichelPostma Yes, they absolutely would give you a pretty representative cross section of the skill levels of the player base, but that's not ideal at all. It means the bottom 50% of players would never win a match again in their entire Apex career. And top 10% players would watch their win rates go through the roof. Pretty sure, if that turned out to be the case, that most people would move on to some game they have a chance at. There's a reason SBMM is a thing that virtually every game uses. This is the reason why professional sports teams don't draft players randomly from the general population. It's why you and I can't go compete in the Olympics just for fun. It's why little league teams don't go to the World Series. Yes? No?
