I don't know the exact reason, though the system wasn't really that great either.
I'd assume that they did this mostly to give the game a fresh coat of paint and to try and make the quality of games better, which partially has worked out.
Back then there were a lot of players that would team up until the end of the game and farm kills by using mobile respawn beacons, which allowed them to manipulate their rating.
New system pretty much made it impossible to do, so I suppose there are some good sides to the newer system.
Whilst it isn't perfect, I think the new system has the potential to become something much more than the previous system, I guess it just takes a long time to make a ranked system better.
After all, people will be comparing it to the previous ranked system, which had been getting updates/changes throughout it's entire lifespan, which is much longer than the current one.
- 2 years ago@XHelperZ Like honestly I have never seen people use that trick to farm free LP by gaining massive amount of kills for it. That most be such a small outlier that only a handfull of idiots are taking advantage off.... They honestly think the current system that builds on the failure of its startup in season 17, where over 30% of players reach masters is better than a handfull of low tier players having nothing better to do than farming kills and when they reach whatever rank can't compete. That is a really bad argument for the old system being hot garbage

High ranked players were constantly teaming to abuse the system to farm kill points to get a higher rank. (Not low ranked players)
People were constantly complaining about it, suggesting to even remove MRB's and do various of things to get rid of them.
From what I've heard, this definitely wasn't a small issue.
Keep in mind that Apex still has a relatively large playerbase.
Whilst you might have not encountered it yourself, doesn't make it so that it barely happened.
Most players discovered that players were doing this after spectating the final few players, which I doubt a lot of people do.
If the previous system was fine, then there was no need to change it.People farming kills wasn't of course the sole reason for changing a system, that would of course be a bit stupid.
A new ranked system IMO would work well with giving the game a new fresh coat of paint.
Though of course, it takes time for a new system to be improved so match quality goes up.
The previous system may be better in some areas, though once the newer system improves to cover it, there would be no need to return to the previous system.
After all, the previous system has existed much longer than the newer one, so I don't think it's completely fair to compare the 2 in every aspect.
The current system isn't great, though I believe the matchmaker is mostly to blame for it, which would be a completely separate issue.
- 2 years ago@XHelperZ Where do you think they collected the data to start off with the new ranked system? The old seasons of course and then they try to come up with some over complicated matchmaking score system instead of using a more simple natural occuring matchmaking that the old system had.
