You’ve finally done it, after 4000 hours I’m out.
I’m currently considered old for gaming standards, but I grew up with punishing games which made me want to get better. I remember playing against absolute demons and trying to learn from it. Apex was a game that did the same for me and was rewarding to learn and master, and I’ve been Master 5 times now, but the game in its current state doesn’t represent that.
- Aim assist ruining the PC experience: especially at higher tiers this is just unplayable. Controller players will ape you just to get into the aim assist zone and 1-clip you through screen clutter before you can even blink
- Ranked + MMR is terrible and makes no sense: I’ve never had issues getting out of silver/gold/plat and even diamond as a solo player, but this season I’m pretty much “stuck” in Silver hell because I solo queue, get bad teammates and fight Master/Pred/Pro players while worse players can climb out because they face easier opponents and get more points per kill.
- Pubs is miserable too: My K/D used to be around 2.5~3 pretty much every season, with a win rate between 10%-15%. This season my K/D is 0.9 and my win rate after 100 games is 2%. I didn’t get worse, I dominate mixtape leaderboards against good players (Master/Pred with 4k20 badges). The matchmaking this season has just decided that my KD should be 1 and I should not be rewarded for improving but instead get punished
- Lazy events and skins: rehashed events if we even get any, and often times they’re worse than they used to be. I’m talking about actual playable events, not the skin store that Respawn likes to call an event. There hasn’t been a thematic skin event in months either, but we get fully recolored heirloom events at full price, we get bundles which now cost €30+ and are the only option (Wattson skin). The game just feels very stale at this point.
I played some ranked today to see how it is, and it’s just miserable. I’m not touching the game again and moved on to Battlefield 1 and Battlebit as well as racing games. Apex has gone out of control trying to cash grab as much as possible without investing in game quality to actually keep people playing. Sad to see a good game turn into this.
