Sad thing it will still sell well.
Just like how Diabloe Immortal you have what's called Whales who drop thousands of bucks in a game. They only need a minority to be big spenders like this, so therefore they'll pump more cosmetics.
1. $160 for a skin. How long does that take to develop.
2. How much for a AAA RPG - How long does that take in comparison. Witcher 3 took 3 years as example.
Sounds like it's easier to do 1 as new trend as easier to develop and much more return in money. Much like how mobile games are easier to develop and greater returns.
I don't blame actual game developers. I'm sure they have bills to pay and EA management are forcing them to do these things. They would much rather do creative things to make the game more interesting to expand their skills, but their hands are tied. It is because minority keep buying into it. They would love to join a development studio that would use their creativitiy and have great recognition and feedback of their work.
There is a saying "Don't hate the game, hate the player" but in this case it's paying players. Sure go ahead and support EA with money. Might as well give money to a landlord. I'm more happy paying for great games like Escape From Tarkov br, Stellaris, Warhammer Totat war series etc. Sheer quality and love put into them.
