Anybody believe Respawn's statement that "your priorities are our priorities"?

Does anybody believe that Respawn has "recognize(d) that we need to be more timely, transparent, and consistent in our communications with you. Your priorities are our priorities: cheaters, game stability, and quality of life updates are top of mind. We need to get better and it's why we're acknowledging them here"?  Link >>> https://www.ea.com/games/apex-legends/news/battle-pass-update

I will give them props for actually saying it.  Acknowledging you have a problem is the first step in the twelve step process and is something they really haven't ever said before as far as I remember.  TBH, it feels like they've been scared of their own community and only listening to streamers and pros for a few years.

Sure, they said that there will be "a number of improvements and game stability bug fixes coming in Season 22 that will be outlined in the Patch Notes dropping on August 5, 2024" so I guess we'll see in a few days.  I am not optimistic based on the AA nerf rumored being only for PC controllers.  Their update also doesn't mention smurfs (maybe they consider them cheaters), matchmaking, or server performance specifically, so that makes me even less hopeful of any meaningful updates this season.

PS - For QOL stuff, why not give us the Top 3 Legend preference option that's been asked for since about Season 2?  Seems super simple to implement and it has been on every QOL list I've ever seen.

@HappyHourSumwur Right, I think the survey they sent out was a good sign they are trying to move in the right direction. They know there are problems, and as the new season shows, they want to make changes and make the game more playable to a wider audience.

I think the fact they had questions on the survey asking you to rank how bad the cheating is on a scale of 1 to 5, how often you die to cheaters, if you think the firing range is a sufficient place to practice your skills, what you think of the ranked rp system and matchmaking, if the battle passes are a good value, etc. It shows they know what the problem areas are and are trying to change for the better. I'm really optimistic about the future of the game now.
  • @HappyHourSumwur Like you I will give kudos where its due, such as finally admitting some fault, and communicating to the player base. Long time coming.
What I did notice with their words about a number of improvements and game stability bug fixes - is NO mention of new servers, updates to servers, nor new sound engine or update to the sound engine. Nothing specific. How do you fix stability issues with servers older than half the player base?

@AreYouShivering5 years of "We know best what the players need" and all of a sudden a change of heart ? Also those changes ... 0.3 AA is just a marketing band-aid that changes literally nothing and they know it.
I wont believe anything, they have a track record in misleading and/or false statements, and that wont change only bcs they introduce some bandaid they themselves said years ago, wouldnt change a thing ...
If they wanted to restore their image with the community : input-based lobbies ... no other solution is to be accepted.
Also the other elephant in the room @HappyHourSumwur pointed out ... no mention of MM, server quality, ect. tells me they dont really care what the pressing issues are

Sure, I believe they know exactly what we think is wrong with the game. Sure, I believe they'd love to fix those problems. No, I don't believe much of substance will change.

Pretty sure that Respawn's deal with EA is a devil's bargain. Respawn builds a good game, EA "markets" and "publishes" it, which is business speak for "finances," and in return all the money rolls into EA coffers, not Respawn. EA doles out a few bucks here and there to the dev to sort of keep the lights on, but I can promise you there is not now nor will there ever be a major investment like new servers, new audio engine, or even workable anti-cheat. Pretty sure there could never be a workable anti-cheat even if money was no object. But it is.

No, when the time comes EA will bankroll the next title, very possibly an Apex Legends II, but a major investment in a five year old game with a declining player base? How does that make business sense?
