None of my buds could play today but I wanted to make some battle pass progress. I played two games, got six knocks and four kills. Not a bad result from from how I measure it, but I logged off anyway, particularly since the map switched to WE, which I pretty much refuse to play with only randoms. Am I weird? Well yes, I am weird, but what I mean is does this preference, specifically, make me weird? I just don't really feel the solo q vibe man. I was playing pretty well and my team mates weren't jerks, but after two games I was just kinda stressed out. For a little while, I was finding solo q duos more fun, but lately I keep being given a liability for a team mate, and might as well no fill, which I do sometimes with moderate success, but of course is also stressful.

@pandareno1999 The only time I actually enjoyed playing solo is when I grinded to diamond in season 12. I can’t stand auto-quitters in pubs.I disagree with Darth that playing in a pre-made is not a challenge since you’re up against pre-made masters in pubs and even in gold ranked.

@pandareno1999 I play mostly solo q because my friends are super frustrated with game, getting smashed because of bad SBMM and Smurfs. I find it to be the best way for me to play because the SBMM is insanely heavy handed when I play stacked but generally better on my own. The downside is random team mates though, every flavour from terrible to terrific. I do ge5 a bit of a buzz when I get good team mates though, not just talking skill lvl, but general friendly teamwork.

@pandareno1999 I don't know I enjoy the challenge of it all. I just turn voice chat off now and go with the flow.

Sometimes I get really great teammates and have a good match, other times not so much. But when I get bad teammates it puts my skills to the test. It's also where I push myself to try and build new skills for example, using zip lines in a 1vs3 fight and jumping off to hit a cell.

When I play with friends I just don't end up in those situations where I have to clutch the fight. So I'm not really challenging myself.

@pandareno1999 I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a blast when I get both of my good friends on for some matches, but when I play solo, I tend to just grind a couple/few challenges for BP progress, and then switch to a different game. If my buddies are on, I can easily play for hours and have fun while doing so. Like you though, even if I'm playing well, I just don't have as much fun playing solo. I still get kills and wins and whatnot, but I like kicking it with my friends on games. I wouldn't really say it stresses me out, I just get.... bored? I have a hard time finding motivation to play any multiplayer game, solo. I'd rather hop on Farming Sim or Dead Space or another single-player game

Been on the solo grind since mid season (S7), my friends just moved on to other games.
I love Apex so much that I just keep at it, even tho it's very frustrating to play with randoms.
If it's a premade duo, i'm the 3rd wheel, I don't get loot as they share together with no pings, I'm the last to get revived if needed....things like that. Otherwise most don't utilize comms, and being better than average, I mostly get paired with bots.
Oddly enough, took a screen shot of the end game recap in rank yesterday, just cause I can't understand how I'm doing 1000+ dmg, and both teammates have a combined total of 80 dmg, yes, combined!!!!
S13 was rough with the rank changes, S14 is just as bad with SBMM and the ring changes.

I almost never do anything except solo, so I guess it's like eating cafeteria food. I don't know anything else.

But playing with people I know is by far the most stressful way to play the game. Nobody plays the way I do so I constantly find myself being forced into situations I'd rather not be in, and doing risky things that don't need to be done except to satisfy someone else's itch to get into an unnecessary and ill-considered fight. Playing with randoms who die in a bad drop in the first thirty seconds of the match, leaving me to solo to second place, is far less stressful. Far less. Like I said, it's pretty much all I know.

Oh, but a big call out to @Kyldenar who actually does play more or less the way I do and who didn't stress me out at all when we teamed up.

@pandareno1999 I have no choice but to solo 🙃. People are either not on when I am or doing their own thing so If I wanna get where I want to be I have to do it myself lol.

Solo q is what I do all the time in ranked, and mostly what I do in pubs. Now, lately, I've left the mic on and not auto muted...but I can safely say that is hat not led to more success. Mics are overrated.
The problem, for me, is this game is advertised as a team game, but the rules and the way the game plays encourage solo operations if you want to, say, advance in ranked. I have to actually play games solo in ranked and ignore my team completely to regain points I lose when I actually play with my team. Mind you this is basically because I'm just slumming in silver. But I don't really recall it getting any better in gold and certainly not in platinum. Diamond was the first rank that people tried to work as a team more in pubs, but it had its own fair level of salt and it also didn't help anyone get past Diamond IV. It just made some games more fun to play.
If you are feeling stressed from solo q, I would say I'm not surprised compared to when you have pre-made one or two. Anonymity on the internet and a lack of any real enforcement means you're going to run into bad people and bad players, rather a lot in fact. But don't let that get you down. Mute and the ping system aren't as good but they're better than putting up with bad coms.

Various friends I used to team with all quit Apex during S6 when cross-play was introduced & so I've been a solo queuer ever since & for me the game can feel like an absolute grind to play more than fun at times.Squash matches have become more prominent over the past few seasons merely struggling to find loot or an adequate weapon when numerous squads are around the corner.But Pre-made squads & solo-queuing is most of the time just unbalances the matchmaking where half the time random teammates are more than happy to take items & loot you have clearly pinged for yourself or clear out the loot chest you've just opened.In an ideal Apex game I'd like a separate solo-queing mode were every team is filled with randoms but that will require additional servers (existing ones are already a problem).
But since SP & Worlds Edge have come back on map rotation (both maps I hate) I've been playing Arenas more & despite scumbag teammates who'll randomly quit during a tie-break scenario & match fill problems (one of the most shambolic aspects of Arenas mode playing 2 vs 3 at the start of a match).And Arenas is just a quicker mode to play to complete Battle Pass challenges.

Thanks you guys for all of your thoughtful replies so far. I'm going to try to think a bit more and see if I can explain how it feels to me. In seasons past I hated to solo queue because I was objectively terrible at the game. Now I'm only just moderately bad at the game - I'm no longer a dead weight to my team mates. But I still don't like it. I actually get better stats solo q, due to both the game's pre-made matchmaking, and that my main buddy I most commonly queue with has a major skill gap to me so I am playing in what people like to call "pred lobbies." From S10-13 I played only a handful of games in each season solo queue. I've committed to doing it a bit more regularly starting towards the end of last season and this season. But it just doesn't feel fun the majority of the time. I came out a win with two randoms the other day thinking "meh."

I'm not even sure quite why I started this thread, I guess i just wanted to hear what others might have to say about my take on it.
