It has a lot to do with warzone streamers flocking to apex to leave their cheater riddled lobbies and discovering that Apex is actually fun. Nick mercs had 63k viewers on Apex when I checked him out while Shiv had 12k at the same time. Tim the tat man had over 120k just watching him open 500 packs to get an heirloom.
Probably also a fair bit watching Apex instead of playing it as the game is kinda unplayable atm. 🤪
xQc was on Apex last night for a little while. For those unfamiliar with him, he's a bit hard to describe. Those who are familiar would guess correctly that it was pretty funny watching him mald at Apex since he doesn't know what he's doing. "Mirage is the most OP character in the game!" Anyway, that was 60K more viewers right there.
There has also been a significant influx of streamers who previously played Overwatch. My favorite streamer, Holiwhirl, was a well-known GM Overwatch streamer for a long time, and switched to playing Apex at pretty much exactly the time that I did, at the beginning of season 7. She's brought a lot of her old friends in and at least one of them has taken to also streaming Apex instead of OW.
For many big name Overwatch streamers, Apex has in the last few months become one of their primary go-to games when not playing OW. Apex has been good for them since OW has not had any new content in forever, and it's good for Apex that their viewers see them playing and enjoying Apex. I even noticed that EA sponsored some how-to vids from KarQ.
First time watching Timthetatman’s youtube vids on apex and boy was he so entertaining. I love how he got hyped over ranking up from bronze to silver. He got a new subscriber as long as he sticks with Apex which I hope he does. Having big streamers over to apex is a good thing for the game overall.
I also saw their complaints about warzone and how bad the state of the game is now. Those videos made me appreciate Apex more. We all know that apex has a lot of issues but is it so fun to play compared to other BRs.
