We must live in an abusive society.
When the first answer to making people play is punish them if they don't. In a game meant to be fun, no less.
It's all about the incentives, certainly if you are also going to inflict a penalty, but you don't even need a penalty. Nobody has to be your team mate or play your game, but they will if there is something in it for themselves.
I'm sure this is a test, and they were probably nervous considering Arena (unfounded) hate. People need benefits to unlock in Control, and that will help. And, sure, you'll hear screaming like, "WHY DO YOU MAKE ME PLAY CUNTROOOOLLL! wwaaahhHHHH!!" But whining is par for the course these days. If you are playing a game for the incentive, then obviously you want to play it.
More benefits, more players. Especially in a for fun video game.

@KelRiever @hayhor And what are those rewards? Any ideas? Because for example giving people free skins is not the answer since once they get it they'd just start quitting again, and i'm pretty sure a good amount of players wouldn't care about a skin at all.
- hayhor4 years agoHero@Cro_Pittt For one remove the level cap completely so people can level up by finishing games. Anyone leaving doesn't get it. Same would go for BP stars. Quitters dont get them. Leveling up would get you packs.
Do that with a combination of the other items.- 4 years ago
@hayhor @KelRiever I don't think any of the things you guys suggested would make the difference, personally i'd not reward someone just because they're doing something they're supposed to do normally. Toxicity in this game is so bad and i think some kind of penalty would be very good since we don't have any for pubs.

@Cro_Pittt It is true that some people will not care about rewards, but most people will. And, frankly, while I don't think they'd offer a skin, of the rewards people get, skins are way clearly their favorite. How often have I gone on and said $18 is way too much money to pay for a stupid skin....and yet, here we are, people dropping every event that much and more just to get them.
All the rewards that currently exist that we already have in BP, events, etc. are fine. It doesn't even take a lot, but it's important that they be around playing and finishing matches. Given how easy it is to get 'play game' awards because you can just load the game and quit, I would keep the rewards, like in Arena, around scoring damage, taking zones, and winning games. These are the things that people find themselves needing to accomplish something to get the benefit, so the idea isn't just that they show up in the game, but they play it.
Now, if you want to introduce a penalty, maybe, but do it after the incentives are there. Then I would think that the penalty would work the best, if you are going to have one, because it's a pain to leave, and if you actually play, you get something for it.

If you que for control and leave part way through the match you should be penalized. You're ruining other peoples game. You know what you signed up for. Don't want to be penalized for leaving? Then stay. If they had Ranked and Regular, then I agree only Ranked should have a penalty for leaving.
I was excited for Control, but it just doesn't work for Apex. The engine falls apart with too many people in one place. It works really well for BR because the fights are usually spread out across the map.
The problems I've experienced so far:
Huge skill gap between teams
Performance is Horrible - Network/Connection, Hit reg, Overall performance
UI needs work. It's confusing. Just copy/paste BF
I really don't see this staying around unfortunately. I typically hate BR games and Apex is the only one I can stand. We need more Arena type games and not just Quake clones that fail every time. I really wanted to like Control.
- Kyldenar4 years agoSeasoned Ace@KelRiever You really want to get people playing objectives?
Reward Crafting Metals (maybe even Apex coins) for high scores on objectives. Do the same in BR.
Yeah, you can drop Fragments hot, get like 10 kills and look impressive like a streamer (hint: you won't, or you'd already be one) or you can actually play the BR mode, survive to 3rd place or better, and get some guaranteed crafting metals, with a 2% chance at some 50 Apex coins or something. Maybe even Apex pack for 1st place.
Then suddenly people would be playing the modes they way they are designed.
More carrot, less stick. - 4 years ago@KelRiever Its not like we proposing to castrate people. A small time penalty is hardly "abusive society". Game bans and penalties are in plenty of physical competitive sports plenty and a lot of other competitive e sports.
Bad losers ruin games. A small block out from playing that mode if they abandon would greatly improve the game for others. Honestly in 80% of the cases, with a little perseverance the game is still winnable.- CCbathwater4 years agoSeasoned Ace
@SmeeArgoGive a penalty to the players who make us leave. I wouldn't have to leave if people helped and played the game. Just had one where I'm the only one in B's zone, holding out the enemy capture. My team is busy being everywhere around B but the zone, completely disregarding the enemy is 2 ticks from capturing it, leaving me to do everything. Insta leave. Or the other game where three ***** don't even play, there's just 6 of us running around the map. Leave again. I could go on and on, about all three modes like this. Why on earth should you stay in a game full of griefers? Anyway, like on Arenas, I'd rather take a 10 minute penalty than be made a fool by my own sbmm assigned teammates.
Or of course when the game decides to load you in on a 6-man squad against one of 9, in a 9v9 mode.
