I think the main reason to separate it from coins is because they want players to be able to get through other ways like Apex Packs.
They're not really going to grant Apex Coins out of packs, and the currency is meant to do something specific, hence why it was likely to be separated.
Overwatch has done something similar, with "Mythic Prisms", which is pretty much the equivalent of our heirloom shards, but you can also upgrade/recolor certain heirlooms.
Apex could of course have just swapped prisms with heirloom shards, so you could buy recolors/upgrades for less shards.
They probably didn't do this because they want the currency to be more available, so you can get them without RNG.
Though Overwatch also incorporates the mythic prisms in their battle pass, which I personally think would be a great to do with this current currency.
I understand that creating a new currency can be confusing, but I think (If what I said before was true), that it would be logical to use a separate currency.
They just need to make it a bit more available, either by putting the currency in the BP or having higher drop chances in packs.
Do you find the entire concept of the new currency unnecessary or just the recolor stuff related to it?
If it's the former, same what I said to Hayhor above, mostly to make it more available to users.
And honestly, they should make it possible to do at least that much with legend tokens, still surprising why they haven't.
Personally I don't think the new currency is that bad, but at least make it possible to do something with legend tokens as well.
Also I don't think the ones that deal with shop stuff have much to do with the in-game issues, at least, the influence wouldn't be quite as much.
(Of course differs per company, but usually holds up)
I might ask this a bit too often to everyone, but issues and opinions change overtime, so what kind of long-standing issues would you like see solved?
I get audio issues and all, but they have expressed how hard that has been to fix, I do see less complaints about it nowadays, but it definitely still exists.
@XHelperZ so we're justifying corporate greed because another corporation has similar greed? great...

Not really, I'm just saying it's more logical to tie it to a different currency rather than using Heirloom Shards, which would make it even less accessible for users.
And again, I would like to see them implement Legend Tokens with something like this, as that's obviously not being used a lot, and in large quantities it's clear that players have done more than enough to deserve something.
Doing some further digging, seems like they can't be unlocked via Apex Packs? I was under the impression that it was.
With that in mind, yes, a currency like this would not be worth spending any money on, it's overpriced and just not great really.
If they were to implement the currency as a drop in the BP and as a potential drop in Apex Packs, then it would definitely make more sense.
With the BP you are paying with your precious time to grind the currency, which happens passively for those who play the game a lot.
For Apex Packs... well, it's gambling, so it's not like I can say that it's a good thing.
I think it's logical to use this currency, but it's current implementation is just too greedy, yes.
It has potential, I don't think that's a bad thing, but you are right that this is way too greedy.

Legend Tokens should still be convertible into coins or whatever. Reward the players who actually play the game. On Star Trek e.g., said this before, you can convert the in-game currency into zen coins usable in the store. Zen, which is the currency used on Arc Games' games. The conversion rates naturally not in your favour this way, but you can.
- hayhor1 year agoHero@XHelperZ The special gun skins don't need a special currency. At the end of the day it costs money. Instead of 50 of the new crap just make then 5000 apex coins. It doesn't make sense. The Katar upgrade crap could also be bought with simple apex coins. The reason for this is so you have to stock two different currencies which means you have to buy two different ones. It's a money grab in OW and Apex.

I thought the events were badly priced, but these exotic shards £45.00 for 1 Legendary weapon skin if you are to buy the shards.Get a grip Respawn..😳
- damsonwhufndthis1 year agoSeasoned Ace@XHelperZ as @hayhor said, the problem isn't the currency, but rather it's effect on already working system, by splitting the premium currencies to multiples you can divide products in each of these categories, which in turn can cause frustration because the player could have a money pile, but because the money pile is blue and not green, they cannot buy the skins or whatever that costs green money with blue money
you see where this is going? and then if the cash to currency isn't consistent, you can be left with scrap currency left, that can't buy you anything or lessen the required price because the items is bought by a different currency...- hayhor1 year agoHero@damsonwhufndthis Exactly. I've got about 3k apex coins sitting. Had the things you could buy with the new currency been apex coins I may have loaded more to buy something.
