The short answer is no. MMR now matches you with players of equal ability to you over the last few games played, not of similar ranked.
MMR seems to have changed over the past few days though. After taking over a week to get from Silver I to Gold IV, I got from Gold IV to over halfway to Gold III in a couple of hours. The games were definitely less sweaty.

@EdwardDLuffy I wouldn't say MMR matches you with players of equal ability. If that were the case you would get players the same rank as you but you don't, you get players who are 2-3 ranks below you. (speaking from my experience so far)

@Sonvekk Rank and ability are not the same thing. It's not too hard to grind up to Diamond by simply hiding in the ring and stocking meds. Someone has made Predator even though they did 0 damage in every ranked game they played (although they were a sweat).
As I said it's not done overall - it's done over your last few games. So a Platinum player who finishes 11th or lower a few times in a row can easily be put up with a Bronze player who's had a few top 5 finishes on the bounce.
You can read about how it works here:

@EdwardDLuffy Yeah ability and rank are not the same but I've played this game long enough to know that I'm not getting paired with teammates of my ability going by the MMR in Apex right now.

If I go off of what you are saying then matchmaking is either broken or calling you a liar because I finish top 5 most of my games and average 3-5 kills. So????
Again this is based on my matches and my opinion of how matchmaking is in my games, it can be different for other players.
