@Piabetic The problem comes when it feels like you are not making any progress whatsoever despite making great efforts. "Why do I even bother?" During much of that time I took off the game, I was still in the firing range for at least a half hour daily. My stats this season are still not tremendously improved, but I feel much more confident in my shot and movement which is giving me better chances in each individual fight I take. And that makes a lot of difference in enjoyment level. I can come out of a failed game now seeing what I did RIGHT, even after getting outplayed by a highly skilled player.

@pandareno1999 Lately, I feel much improved and I think a lot of it is down to the fact that I was running an old 60HZ monitor and was too dumb to realise that was locking me at 60 FPS. Since I got a better monitor I feel I am performing so much better despite the fact that probably haven't fundamentally improved that much. My general downfall is general awareness, I often don't even realise the fight I charge into is the last squad until its over.
I don't want to go into games and know its going to be like shooting fish in a barrel, for me it's fine as it is. Sure, I would rather the really good players don't choose to spend their weekends picking off newbies in public games but maybe they are with a friend and taking a break from ranked . . its fine.
