Yes - this is their "new quality" that destroyed everything. Since the Ash rework they themselves have erased 6 years of this game.

EPS1234 would be nice to know more detailed feedback on why such conclusions.
I personally skipped the split or even season (can't tell now by heart) when Ash got her dash, came back, did not play her for weeks until I noticed that ability :)
Also now this split I have played in d4+ lobbies:
- Bangalore = still good vs enemies who even at this level has 0 game awareness -> you just smoke them, reposition and more often than not will be able to catch them running in open to your previous location
- Mirage = kinda similar to Bangalore's case just more in close range
- Lifeline = actually with teammates that do not run in 3 different directions I have had the best games KP/Kill/damage wise with her. Mostly blocking crazy pushes with my Ult, picking up teammates faster than enemies think they can kill them, typical "trick" with us being knocked down -> take Alter portal -> stick res -> enemies take portal one by one -> easy kills
- Pathfinder = still great when you know that you will be 1 against everyone (scans enemy or zone, find both equally viable), zipline, double grapple is OP. Combine with G7, 3030, bow = very viable until like zone 3-4 when you can't keep distance between yourself and enemy 3stacks
- Wraith / Loba = to a lesser extent but still can confuse enemies / reposition / flank very fast. In case of Loba also best loot, especially on WE
Legends I have not touched for a while:
- Valkyrie, Seer, Bloodhound (I think since season 8 :( ), Gibi (tired of sad solo bubble deaths and me being hit from other side of the map with charge), Octane, Horizon (since ult pull nerf), Conduit (never got why she is viable), Caustic (my favorite legend until they nerfed gass to death aka basically just fog you run through).
No matter which legends in my experience I still am the same level - D4 when I don't really try super hard, throw some games when teammates are just pure piece of S%$^, D2+ when I really try.
And no meta or legends (even in their OP state - remember support meta) will outweigh the inability of people to communicate, teamwork, not be greedy, keep their head "cool" during fights. 9 out of 10 times I can kill "dumb" uncoordinated team with any legend and most of the time not even using their abilities because it just comes down to repositioning, surprising, standing and shooting open targets.

I wish you at least -20k by the end of June. You fully deserve it. You exhausted the population with the Ash/Ballistic/Alter/Sparrow meta.I won't mention the number of cheaters and the terrible matchmaking (mainly in pubs).
Get to work and maybe people will come back. Tragic game management.
This and the last season remind me of only one thing:
Ash - I can't move + Ballistic - I can't shoot.
So how am I supposed to play an FPS game if I can't do basic things in a game like that? SICK! Your game has completely lost any sense. Everyone will run away from you and only "legit" players with KD 10+ and other "legit" players with low lvl will remain.

Blekerodo regarding play count / activity -> if you look at peak player count / player count increase you run across following main factors:
- player increase around season 12.
What happened there? Respawn created an easier to get Masters for the first? time, season 13 was known to be as "first free to take Masters" season and I personally without much effort also almost got it, fell a bit short at the same time went from "hardstuck" D4 to at the end D2 or D1, for sure was very close to Masters border at some point during that grind. Many of people whom I used to play via LFG on Discord at that time did jump from D4 to Masters - over past seasons along with player increase same trend followed number of Master players peaking at season 17? where it was just a matter of putting in time and grinding (ratting) more than others to get even Pred! I think to this point that was first season were it was free to take Pred!
- After "everyone" got Pred/Masters you can see player base decline. Part of it might be the fact that content was not sufficient, for sure hacking became crazy bad, but I also know for sure that part of it was that everyone now had at least few Master badges, some even got Pred badges and there was no more motivation to grind ranked also ranked system was made tighter and people who got both for free now could not repeat and had to face the reality that they are back to D4 or in some cases even Platinum = hard ego blow after rocking those multiple Master / Pred badges
So I would argue that ranked, meta etc. has at most 50% impact on player base, most players in Apex are just not here for competitive grind, they are here to have shiny new skins, run and gun brainlessly and aimlessly, use controller + AA instead work having any interest in grinding the skill of MNK etc.
Basically I would conclude that out of those peak 600k players at best 200k were really competitive minded (at least a bit) and all the fall off since then has been because mostly uncompetitive "kids" looking for eye-candy switched to other games. Proof to that - I have played with loads of people in Apex legends official discord channel in LFG EU ranked -> blocked a lot of them for various reasons -> I get into Discord now and then and I still see blocked off messages in bulk = same people are still there actively grinding ranked, same as I do since season 7. It is not about meta, it is about who you are and how you play competitive shooters.
- player increase around season 12.
