End of Match Damage Values

I'm wondering if anyone knows what counts towards the 'Damage' stat displayed at the end of the match.

Is it only when you manage to hurt someone's HP, or does it also include damage done to shields? I'm never able to mentally track my damage done to each type in order to figure out whether my final Damage value sounds reasonable considering either of those scenarios.

If it's HP only, that kind of skews how much each person is is seen to be contributing during the fights. I've had some matches where I snipe from the back and am constantly blowing shields off people, causing them to take cover and regen.This is helpful for my team, but wouldn't show up as 'damage done' when the round ends.

Not a problem either way, I'd just like to know which scenario it is. Thanks!
