@WhoopFighter"I smurf alot"
When you start a smurf account and start over, I can't help but feel for the bronze and silver players you stomp along the way to your proper rank!
You know this contributes to the crap MM you complain about right? If every smurf account was removed tomorrow, I won't say the MM would be fixed, but I'm sure it would feel a whole lot better.
Let's clear up a few things here.
First of all, I solo queue exclusively. In my opinion, smurfing is only an issue when people team up together. I encounter MANY of these teams in the lower ranks. Climbing through Rookie is painful. I'll typically get the most bot teammates, which makes sense, and then every team is like fighting a 3-stack of Diamond players. There's something way of with the MM, but believe me, I'm not the problem here.
Another thing to consider, this is a free to play game. I will always make multiple accounts in F2P games. Why? Because it lets me play differently. I get caught up in stats, or patterns, and making a new account helps me try different things. I'm contributing to the player count of the game as well.
When climbing through the ranks, I always work with my teammates. I coach them, when they'll listen, and teach them how to rotate, how to position, when to back away from a fight, when to seize an opportunity, and so on. They can learn from me if they're willing. I've won lots of games, not because I'm so skilled or whatever, it's because I understand the game, and my teammates understood that, and let me take the lead. I've heard from many teammates while doing this that turned out to be one of the better games they had. Meaning, they had a lot of fun, and it showed them how a good team can play together in order to get the win. Seriously, I've had lots of people that was an awesome round and then friend me after. You can tell they don't win much, and it was genuinely exciting for them. I have a hard time seeing that as a bad thing.
If you want people to stop smurfing, you have to offer a solution. You just go on about character or whatever, that means nothing to me. Here's a couple solutions though. Solo queue ranked. Guided ranked games, you get paired with someone that reset their rank, like prestige in COD, and it shows what their highest obtained rank was for that season. That would encourage teammates to work with the more experienced player, and they would have the credentials to back it.
Another solution, make the ranking tiers larger, meaning more points to climb. I want to feel movement when playing, like I'm working towards something. I pretty much only play ranked because people play it the way the game was designed to be played. In pubs, people just hot drop, push everything, and then rage quit immediately. Maybe Respawn needs to expand on the BR genre more and innovate. Give some sort of progress that carries over from the prior round?
At the end of the day, I think you would prefer people like me smurfing instead of quitting all together, which would be bad for the population. The other alternative is that people start to cheat at this point. I'm not saying that I am cheating, and again, I never will. But if you want people to stick it out, and they feel like they've hit a wall, what do you expect them to do?
