Glassdoor Review
So here's the thing. Apex Legends is a great game offset by horribly slow development, lack of consistent communication and updates, slow bug, audio, hit-reg, and server fixes, frustrating SBMM, lack of community requested features, lack of player choice, and developers who are dead-set on a "we're right you're wrong" attitude. Currently in a pandemic crisis, I'm 100% certain not a single person can fault the developers for moving slowly on anything. However, all of the above mentioned are issues that have persisted from before Covid broke out worldwide.
So now, a disgruntled developer leaves a Glassdoor review about how it is working for Respawn while staying at home. Who do we trust, and what are y'alls thoughts? The above link provided, granted it doesn't violate any rules, leads you both to a PC Gamer article AND a Reddit post where the full review is screenshotted and a developer responds to it as well.
Do we trust the unnamed disgruntled employee who pretty much sums up all of the above issues with, "We have no idea how to do a live service project, which means poor planning decisions and no sizing of work, means we actually have very little idea of how much we can accomplish in a given month."
Or do we take word of mouth from a current developer from a now deleted comment of, "Youโre way off. We are constantly pushing features back as needed, encouraging breaks and no working after hours, and doing far less game updates than you all demand, despite you all calling us lazy on here everyday." For context, this was in response to someone saying that the current crunch culture of game development makes a person amazing / product amazing, which is complete nonsense.
To reiterate because people can't read, no one can complain about how slow the game is progressing currently because of the global pandemic we are all facing, and the developer's health and safety are paramount. I would rather the game be shut down entirely than risk any developer's health. Yet, this doesn't excuse their long history of slow development, nor how they've treated the game itself, nor their community. In this situation I want to know what people think about the review itself, as well as who they believe is telling the truth about the behind the scenes at Respawn.
