Gun Run Matchmaking

I’m pretty committed to mapping Matchmaking across various modes. 

I have played a total of 25 Gun Run Matches and here are my current findings:

My first 16 matches consisted of me playing a lobby specifically comprised of Diamond to Preds (one game had 7 other Preds in the same lobby). 

I lost all of these matches. I spent the next 9 matches specifically losing and getting 0 damage (to test the matchmaking). Despite this, I haven’t seen a reduction in matchmaking (as it pertains to my opponents). Everyone is still Diamond, Master, or Pred regarding skill. 

This may actually be a good thing for some. These findings suggest they tweaked matchmaking and made it tighter. I LITERALLY haven’t seen someone without the 4k 20 bomb or Diamond badge. 

The negative implications of this are: you can be way above average but suffer super poor outcomes because the MM algorithm specifically and exclusively pits you against the very best. Like all of my qualms with MM, this feels super super crappy. 


How do you guys feel about the Gun Run Matchmaking?

    @Axs5626Sxa5001 For an average player like me it felt the same as pubs. By myself my teammates and enemies were a mix. With friends much harder.

    Always appreciate your response.

    But I am inclined to remind you that you’re likely actually above average AND above the median skill.

    (I make that assessment solely on the stats we’ve shared with each other on these threads across the previous months/years).

    The matchmaking rating in Gun Run was carried over from Control. I know this because I have my 0-0 account (BR: Zero damage and zero kills). Despite intentionally performing poorly in BR on this account, I did play normally on Control. Playing Control normally resulted in me being grouped with Masters and Preds when the mode was around. The same seems to be true in Gun Run. My first two games comprised like 3-5 Masters and like two Preds.

    So the PBMM (performance based matchmaking) ladder is specific to:

    -Trios/Duos BR

    - Ranked BR

    -Arenas pubs

    -Arenas Ranked

    -Whatever LTM they decide to cycle through.
