Haunted Estates is a Poor Gun Run Map

I have seen people criticize skull town and fragment as gun run maps. I disagree they are bad. Both offer multiple ways to play. Skulltown you can play height as much as you want but you can also roam the ground floors as a defensive character. Fragment has two POIs, stream building and train station. So if a defensive team is owning streamer building, you can fight the other teams at train station and leave them to sit there. I play path and caustic on both without issue. These are two characters at the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

Haunted estates though only has the one major POI. People run at the middle and top of it like bugs to a light source. The only other option is to sit outside it and try and pick people off. It lacks variation. If you a a defensive character you have trouble just getting to a point to setup. If you do setup eventually you are overwhelmed and now have to try to get there again. Mobility characters can get around on it best but even they get shot from all around. It feels like for me Fuse is the only character that is fun on the map. And this is only because you can stand outside and spam knuckle clusters, which is pretty cringe.

Moving forward I would avoid having any map that has one place that you know would be the spot everyone flocks to. Gardens, with the boundary being before ultimate height, would be a much better map for gun run than estates. A place like solar array would be more fun as well.

I think it is okay.  Not great, not bad.

Basically, tho, unlike the other two maps, instead of going for high ground, you are better running around the outside of the map.  If you want high ground, even, you are better off at a 2 story building on the edge than the 3 in the center.

I get the impression that Respawn did not want the highest building in their maps to be auto win, though holding the WE one is the best of them all.  And still, you can rightly assail the WE building too.

The King's Canyon one is the one I like the least, mostly because it just erupts in close combat fracas, but that is both the hallmark of any KC and again, reminds me of dropping people into a room and having a fistfight rather than strategizing.  Still, at least unlike BR KC, I can see holding certain places and fighting from there as a strategy if the team is together.

  • @hayhor I honestly don't mind it. In games I've played on it people don't just go for the middle. There are also hot points on the 2 stories on either side of the map. It is a free for all tho in a lot of the games I've played so you can get fired at from pretty much anywhere. I had more fun on this map than Frag. That's just me tho.
