Heads up! DX11 Support will be dropped soon

Hello everybody,

I'd like to inform you that DirectX 11 support will be dropped in the upcoming patch on March 25th. This means that players with older GPU's may no longer be able to run the game once the update is applied.

Going forward, a DirectX 12-compatible GPU with Feature Level 12_0 will be required to play. The minimum system requirements have also been updated, which you can find here: [Official EA Site] - Apex Legends PC System Requirements

If you're currently using a GPU that doesn't support DirectX 12 with Feature Level 12_0, you will see this message when attempting to launch the game:

DirectX 11 Deprecation Warning Message (2025/02/25)

However, for the time being, you can still launch the game using DirectX 11 (until it's no longer supported)

To launch the game with DirectX 11, please follow these steps for your relevant platform:

EA App
  1. Open Apex Legends in the EA App.
  2. Click the "Manage" button.
  3. Select "View Properties".
  4. In the "Advanced Launch Options" field, add: -anticheat_settings=SettingsDX11.json
  5. Press "Save".

The game should now launch in DirectX 11 mode.

Steam

When starting the game, you’ll be prompted to choose between two options:

(Steam) - Apex Legends Launch Options (2025/02/25)
  • The default option is DirectX 12.
  • Select the second option to launch with DirectX 11.

Though, I strongly recommend upgrading to a GPU that supports DirectX 12 with Feature Level 12_0 before support is fully discontinued.

If you're already using DX12 and are experiencing frequent crashes, please check Respawn's Trello page here for a number of workarounds that may help.

I do have 3060 ti and ryzen 7 5700x and i have stuttering on directx12

  • Just wanted to bump this thread since the upcoming patch is just around the corner, so for those of you who need it, this is how you can check if your PC has a DirectX 12-compatible GPU with Feature Level 12_0:

    - Hit the Windows key, then search for, (and run), the dxdiag command:

    - Wait a moment for the dxdiag window to pop up, then once it does, you should see something like this:

    - For starters, you should see the DirectX Version being DirectX 12:

    - Next, go to the display tab:

    - While on the dxdiag display tab, you are going to want to look at the drivers section on the right side of the window:

    - In this example, I'm running a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, and on the right side, I see that it supports feature Level "12_1", "12_0", and so on, (which means that this GPU supports DirectX 12 with Feature Level 12_0):

I have a gtx 1050, intel7 7700 and have been able to run the game on a solid 80-100 fps on 1600x900, with dx12 how will that effect me?

RiskyRager  If your system doesn't support DX12 with feature level 12_0, Apex sadly will no longer run on your PC. If your system does support DX12 with feature level 12_0, then you should be good to play the game as usual.

  • I have a 4090 so Dx12 should not be an issue, BUT the game just crashes every time after a few matches on DX12 and it did NOT crash on DX11. Also the frame time pacing is worse on DX12, on DX11 it was a solid flat line and no stutters, on DX12 it's bumpy and sometimes a big frame time spike... Sad. Any ideas on why DX12 crashes though?

    Hey snuggert,

We're still investigating some DX12 crashes, particularly with certain CPUs. It may be worth checking through this information if you're seeing the crashes regularly.

  • "This means that players with older GPU's may no longer be able to run the game once the update is applied" haha why only gpu , ppl with low end cpu's aswell
