Heirloom question

Is it just me or is it annoying that you cant use your exotic shards on the beam saber styles once the event ended? I tried to unlock a colorway and realized you couldn't. After contacting EA they just told me they were extra unlocks that you had to buy with Exotic Shards "during the crossover event" and to "make a post" about it.  I know its just color styles but am I wrong for thinking its a little weird they cant just let you buy them at anytime once you unlocked the heirloom or even a give heads-up regarding limited heirlooms, maybe I'm overthinking it.
