If Aim Assist Isn't A Big Deal, Disabling It Shouldn't Show Drastic Effects.

I play on mouse (Logitech G-Pro) & keyboard and/ or my controller (Razer Wolverine Ultimate) and I thought, if aim assist isn't a big deal, disabling it shouldn't show drastic effects.

So I did just that, I disabled aim assist while playing controller. I noticed right away, I couldn't play at the same momentum I was before almost immediately. Long range wasn't that much of an issue, but close range was something else, especially in foliage, abilities and/ or dark lit buildings like those in Olympus in certain areas.

My controller settings (I have the advanced setting enabled, you can disable aim assist at the bottom of that list).

500
500
ADS 250
ADS 250
Aim acceleration 0
Aim acceleration 0
Linear curve
inner deadzone 7
outer deadzone 2

I also learned something about tracking aim assistance in Apex Legends during this test. If you set the inner deadzone low enough so your aim constantly moves around (aka stick drift), then it activates the ingame tracking aim assistance to track opponents for you (your aim literally moves when the opponent moves, side to side etc).

It does this because Apex Legends is set up to add tracking aim assistance when it reads an input from a user, and thinks the stick drift is that user input.

There are 2 versions of aim assistance in Apex Legends I'm aware of. One is aim assistance slowdown and the other is aim assistance tracking.

So yeah, If I disable aim assist on my controller up close fights are a nightmare just like if I was using my mouse & keyboard. In my opinion if aim assistance wasn't that big of a deal, then disabling it shouldn't show drastic effects, but it does.

  • @Popa2capsOpen and civil? Like you treated my fellow peeps on here? lol

Bro, get help. TLDR. You have no interest in a discussion, all you want is to get kills and wins and to give yourself an advantage. Well here you have it. I will disable my aa just for you. Just. For. You.

You happy now? It's disabled right now, do you feel the difference?

Wow look at at all those kills and that skill....wow. I love it. Loss for words*****bows*** amazing****bows****wow****bows******omg****

    @pandareno1999

I accept your apology, as I did take it as you were calling me trolling. I might have overreacted a little, but I just felt like everyone was posting nonsensical remarks to where I couldn't even reply before the next one would be posted.

You posted, then someone posted off that, it was close to a snowball effect and so on.

I've been perfectly civil in my discussions, but it seems some don't fully read, can't understand and/ or just are naive then start just saying things I'm not, then the article goes off topic very quickly.

To answer your first question, the "big deal" was mostly just a generic phrase like if aim assist isn't that important, powerful, a big deal etc. Matter of fact, "Big Deal" reminds me of all biased controller players I come into contact with.

Like, if a controller user suggests aim assist isn't that A) powerful B) big deal and/ or C) important because mouse & keyboard get their entire arm for movement, but then I ask that same person, "Have you ever played on a mouse & keyboard in Apex Legends...? Crickets 8/10...

My discussion was meant to be about my observed experience moving between both devices.

I watch ItzTimmy and/ or Faide somewhat, but haven't heard them talk about this subject of CQC at all, so I was quite surprised when I first experienced a controller in close quarters combat while using mouse & keyboard, just what a shock.

I would honestly love an honest open discourse on the subject of aim assistance in Apex Legends PC.

    1) Aim assist (both tracking and/ or slowdown strength). Is it possible to achieve a balance while two different inputs play in the same ecosystem, or should there be non-aim assist servers?

@Popa2caps Apologies for your treatment here Korey as your post does seem like its directly discussing the impact of AA instead of mocking controller players.

Of course you're aware of how prior threads have gone so you can't be surprised by a little hostility. Even your thread's title is provocative and I opened it expecting you to take a shot at console players.

You have every right to have an issue with your treatment but its illogical to be surprised by it.

@Sand_spitter Obviously I can't tell you what to do but tone it down a bit? Regardless of what side of the debate I hate instigation and mocking comments.

  • @heme725 Bruh? Really? You think I'm at fault? After he reported people for just disagreeing with him? Yeah ok. That is the point of the forums and the point of a discussion. No problem for me to avoid this in my life... Whatever makes you happy, sure.

Hello, yeah in no way am I mean person or try to be. I try to be as unbiased as I can, and I even reply to nonsensical remarks to try and get into an open discourse where I can.

Sure it's a touchy subject, but the subject should be discussed in my opinion. I've said this in 2019 that aim assist was overpowered and I was solely a controller player. That's as unbiased as someone can get.

I noticed the warning signs from early on that if the subject isn't taken seriously, then more and more mouse & keyboard players will slowly move to different titles, I do not want that to happen to Apex Legends.

I've always felt that having aim assist ona  controller was okay, but only if it was targeting other players with aim assist, I never wanted it on mouse & keyboard players.

I will openly listen to both sides, because that's how people learn.

    @Sand_spitter

I think you're overreacting to something between me and another, don't take it so personal. The reason I reported that one comment was because I felt it was direct harassment.

I felt like I was being made fun of, without any clarification, then others (you) started replying and agreeing with said comment. I didn't want the topic to be closed because of a misunderstanding. Funny remarks and/ or jokes are one thing, but making stuff up I never said is another. I never once said anything about wanting aim assist to eb disable so I can get free kills.

Honestly, I've already got the apology from the user and even replied back with my own, there is no one here mad and/ or staking sides. This is just a discussion about the differences between aim assist on the controller and/ or using the mouse & keyboard.

Just take a chill pill, woosha

@Popa2caps Hey man, thanks very much for reading what I said and your response! Your post above presents some much more considered thoughts worthy of discussion. Hopefully I won't be too lazy to revisit this at a not-so-late hour to take part. Cheers!
  • @Popa2caps "I will openly listen to both sides, because that's how people learn."

    No you wont.

People on here have told you multiple times about aa and how it works yet you wont accept it.

You would rather stir trouble in the forums. If you wanna deny it, I'm more than happy to link all your replies to this thread. Including the ridiculous one to 1v1 @hayhor for disagreeing with you. LOL indeed. Dude. You can report me, but I will call you a troll any day of the week and one that needs practice in Apex, mind you.
