Legends Spotlight, Vantage.

Happy Friday all,

wow do we have a lot of choice with legends now since back in the day of the OG Legends.

I want to give my take on each legend every couple of weeks moving forward.

How they work for the solo Q player and how they work for a team.

This will just be my own thoughts on them and you are all free to comment, just be respectful and do not flame me to much.

This week I want to take a look at VANTAGE, yes that is right I said VANTAGE, one of the least picked legends but with one of the highest win rates as per ApexStatus listings, ranked 20th at a .5% pick rate, Win rate is ranked #5 at 70.6%.

Currently I am maining Vantage (Why?) and at 150 games this season I am sitting on a healthy 7.33% win rate with her.

I play Vantage quite aggressively CQC, her sniper ability is for pre-push, free knocks, and cleanup (unless you get stuck alone).

A lot of people think that she is not a good choice and that her abilities are not very team orientated and is best used to camp, I say otherwise.

Team play:

Passive: Spotters lens: is actually a great team use ability, used with out optics give a wider range of vey if not a deeper range and can be used to scan large areas of ground to provide info on the whereabouts of enemies how many and their shield levels. This is great when entering new areas so as not to be caught off guard or to be able to catch the others off guard as it is a great scan ability that does not give off your whereabouts like BH's

Tac: Echo Relocation: This is more an individual ability and not so team orientated but can be used to help Vantage join her teammates in a push on another team quicker if she was off angle. It is also a decent reposition and escape ability.

Ult: Snipers Mark: Is actually pretty useful for many reasons, 1) a lot of players hit with it will back off or break line of site for the duration, 2) 2-3 successive hits usually causes a nock and helps enable a push, 3) it is great for knocking unaware players that are far off and healing or finishing off knocked players 4) farming damage for shields.

Weapons Loadout:

I know everyone has their fav's and that should be so.

However Vantage does not and should not go looking for and equipping a Sniper weapon and Marksman class is iffy, She has a built in sniper weapon and really that is all she needs from that class of weapons.

I really and truly think that running her with any SMG (my pref Alternator + Disrupter) and an AR (my pref Hemlock) is the way to go as you will be covering all ranges and that provides the most utility for her and the team, with that combo she can CQC well and and can also farm damage for evos at long and mid ranges.

Having 3 weapons is pretty darn good.

Solo play,  her kit is not sow strong to be 1v3 ing, however if your team leave/quits/dies and you are own your own, I still advise the same loadout and her abilities do become quite valuable for getting higher placement in ranked to help secure/gain those ladder points.

Well there you have it my two cents and now you can rip me one for maining her.

Please leave constructive comments and or thoughts/advice on your take on VANTAGE.

Once again Happy Friday and Happy Hunting.

  • havent played her in a while, due to lvling up the newer legends.
    I always took at least 2-3 Accelerants with me to have a full sniper mag when i need it (sry loba and life for not being able to produce the loot as fast). The passive which tells your mates the status of the enemy team is just great for timing the push.
    Echo comes in handy when teaming up with fast legends like path or octane to keep up the pace and for reaching high ground.
    Overall my 3rd most used Legend.

    This screen was taken in her initial season ... as you can see i like her a lot

    @r1ggedgame

    Thanks for the reply.

    Alt accels are pretty good to have with her, I usually carry just one with her though.

    Nice stats there, I have a ways to go, to catch up, I am in the top 1.63% for Kills, 1.31% for Dmg and 1.04% for wins.

    @Asmodeus566 as with all the legends i like, i tend to play crap out of them. Banga, Valk ... reminds me to grind Ballistic a bit more. and then move on to Conduit , lol
  • @Asmodeus566 I'm enjoying playing her and having a gentle success with her.

    I haven't got as many wins with her as I have Ballistic since my return, but I have about 3x the number of games with him.

    I seem to have a similar KD but I am narrowly missing 5 kills a lot of times with her. Get 4s and a lot of knocks.

    I feel I benefit from her and Ballistic for the same reason - 3 weapons. But I play them very differently. Hyper aggressive with Balli but more considered and positional with Vanty.

    I think that is why when I checked my stays with her I was surprised that they seem on course if not better than with Balli. Why I called it a 'gentle' success. Because it feels like I'm strolling to victories. As opposed to octane stem levels of skirmishes.

    I think this is sometimes my issue tho 'trying' to do stuff instead of just playing and let the 'stuff' occur (i.e. forcing uses of abilities etc)

    My experience of Vantage:

    I play a bit calmer with Vantage, mainly because I'm looking for adVantageous positioning, where I can have eyes on opponents and splat them with the Sniper.

    I wonder maybe this inadvertently improves my tactical and support play; rather than trying to sneak up and CQC brawl in potentially unideal locations with risks of getting third partied for the sake of kills, I'm actually seeking strong positions, not fighting pointlessly, whilst also providing cover and info for my teammates.

    I sure as heck know how annoying it is when you're trying to engage in a fight but get slapped once or twice by a sniper. You end up having to seek cover.

    I find this sometimes means I run the risk of not being where my teammates need me or finding myself out of place in certain fights.

    Weapons

    I'm still trying to find my preferred load generally, so pinch of salt...

    Contrary to Asmodeus, I run with a marksman (3030), partly because I like the weapon, but there's also a logic;

    My mindset will be set for long range engagements, and so will a lot of my positioning - seeing as the Sniper has 6 shots and you may not be full charge... when you've landed with it, its good to be able to continue to support and follow up your attacks, as well as if you catch an enemy as they begin to push but you're still in mid-long range.

    It helps a lot with bridging-the-gap between ranges and stages of a fight.

    I'm undecided on close-mid; I change between Re45, Hemlok, r99.

    Because the server been iffy for me, I currently avoiding burst fire and finding single shot cannbe more successful - so maybe Hemlok (tempted to try Flatline in single mode too)

    Sometimes I'll run (for eg) a re45 and hemlok. Sometimes I'll run a hemlok and 3030 (my usual fave) but I wonder if it makes me feel too built for mid-long.

    Abilities

    echo isn't as smooth as I'd like. It can be incredibly fiddly. So it's not going to be the best of escape tools.

    I was hoping it would function somewhere between Loba's bracelet and Overwatch's Sombra's relocation tool.

    Think of it like her quip and name "Moving to Echo for a better angle." Vantage; a place or position affording a good view of something.

    As such I find it's best to think of and use this as a tool to get to better angles and positions. Get up on a ledge or roof. Or get from one roof/ledge to another.

    It can be used in escapes, but it's more specific and also easier if you already have echo recalled.

    Ideally you could leave echo somewhere and trigger back to it. But you need to be facing it and it also moves along with you and only has a range of about 40 meters, and often launches closer than that.

    I tried setting it up in a location so that I could ping back to, but it's tricky to manage with thr fact it moves and also needing line of site plus accidental recalls.

    But it does help a little in catching up and fleeing - if you're being chased by Oct/ Path Lob you will get caught.

    Sniper

    This rifle is fun.

    I never typically had too much success sniping in Apex. But I'm enjoying a lot with this. Easy downs. Few eliminations (they feel so good when you pop someone with the Sniper and immediate elimination! Yum)

    If someone has high shields, they usually still shoot back after hit one, but on hit 2 their demeanour changes immediately and they scurry away with their tail between their legs (I've been there too... get pinged, who wants what? Second tag... wow my health, nope, not for me thanks)

    Had a lot of games with 4 kills, and a lot of the victories I've had felt like they've been walked in.

    But my KD and Win rate is similar to or > what it has been with Ballistic who I felt like I'd been doing amazing with (a lot more aggressive and I have better kill badges with Balli)

    If you like to play more tactically and positionally. She's a great great choice.

    @1ronKeys

    Thanks for adding your insights as well. Nice read.

    Playing her due to how she works helps with increasing your own Tactical game awareness and positioning, and we all know that that is one of the #1 skills you need to win. Winning with her tends to also be like just letting your enemies walk into your teams welcoming arms of death.

    @Asmodeus566 I forgot to add...

    Ultimate accelerates SHOULD ideally be giving her the full 6 shots.

    Carrying one of those around for just an extra 1/2 bullets is just not worth it.

    Playing with her also made me think there should be more elevated locations in the maps. Ones that aren't a simple two climbs away.

    Maybe some that are more exclusive to legends with abilities to get there. Etc.

    Some of the immediate map I'm quite surprised and disappointed that you're hit with the return to battle warning.
