Part of me agrees with you, but honestly, we’re talking about a billion dollar product within a multi-billion dollar industry.
History strongly suggests that if a large company can maximize its profits, it will do whatever it can to achieve this.
For arguments sake, I genuinely wouldn’t be shocked if companies like EA are pushing “engagement tactics” similar to what OP is talking about. There is simply too much money to be made.
Nothing— I repeat NOTHING is more important to publishers than maximizing profit margins.
