Yup, I'm a gold player... I don't think I've ever made plat. Got close once but I really don't play ranked much. But every match I play in pubs thats exactly where i'm thrown at.
What hidden MMR are they possibly using to justify me and my 0.6 KDR at the moment to be in those lobbies. Even after 5 matches of 0 damage and no kills or assists.... the lobbies don't change. Why?
Oh yeah, I know... the poor preds and masters aren't allowed to wait for matches against there own, we sure wouldn't want that... makes much more sense to throw gold, silver players into their lobbies so they don't have to whine about waiting. Must be nice to beat up on players far below their skill level.
What I would give for just one match, to be able to fight against other gold players like myself or to battle my equal or even plat players above my skill level - Nope... Respawn doesn't seem to want to allow players to play against ppl of similar skill. They have butchered their on MM system.
Its wired to punish new players and feed casual mid to average players against the best. Nice job Respawn! So out of touch its saddening.

I've theorized before, and will again now, that in pubs the game isn't using a skill-based mmr. It's using a "willingness to tolerate abuse" mmr. In other words, the more you play out these insane matches without exiting the pregame lobby looking for better balance, or actively quitting matches when you run into things that outrage you... then the more the game will test your outrage reflex.
Me personally... if I ever saw a distribution curve like ANY of the ones posted by EspadakillarTTV then I would quit back to the lobby in the blink of an eye. In fact, if you saw the curves I get, curves which almost always get me to re-queue, then you would laugh out loud because they're no where near as bad as the screen shots above. My typical curve has a grey area that spans from the beginning of the rise on the left all the way to the point where it starts to flatten out on the right - genuine single-bucket matchmaking, or so close as makes no difference - and my red line is always dead center at the peak of the curve. To me that's an insta-quit. I can't imagine getting a match that was exclusively predators. Did I say, "predators?" I meant to say, "cheaters."
At any rate, even if my theory is right then it's probably too late for players on old accounts with a well-established pattern of playing any match they're given no matter how outrageous the curve. Maybe time for a secondary?

I would love to see those skill distribution levels you were talking about. The thing is I have tried quitting to lobby once the bar is visible... I even dedicated a 2 hr session just doing that in hopes that it would see that I am not willing to play those lobbies and would re-adjust.
But even after 2 hrs of quitting immediately, the skill distribution bar never changed at all... it dropped down a hair, and if I played that match, died instantly with 0 damage... the next one was right back to the same.
My life time KDR is 0.8.... current is now just under 0.6 - I know where my skill level lies, I am not delusional about my skill level. I'm ok, not great but i am light years away from the lobbies they put me in.
But yes, it seems more like "what will you tolerate" type of a MMR. Yet, regardless of what they find about what I will or will not tolerate ... seems to make no difference. It feels like no matter what... their importance lies with wait times for their top player base and nothing to do with gaining new players or player retention... unless you are in the tope 10%... then player retention seems to matter.
**bleep** insane!

Well, yes. Compared to what you're experiencing... it would be an improvement. Though I have to say, I could spend hours picking apart why even my curves are bad and represent a complete failure of the developer to execute high-functioning and fair matchmaking.
I don't know. I'm sure it's a lot harder to do than I think it is. But I still feel like that's not an excuse.
