My issue with the game; sandwich

I've not seen the sandwich as you refer to it very often but I have had instances where my squad has wiped out another one only for a third squad to come and wipe us out and honestly I love it. I love that fact that in the game you have to be constantly on the alert and that danger can come from nowhere.

I can't say I've had the degree of sandwiching you've had, but I do get into these situations somewhat often. I always CAUSE these situations a lot because it's usually an easy way to wipe multiple squads who are all low on shields/HP. Bangalore is great for this, I'll tell my squad to chill for a few seconds and then we pop double smoke and do cleanup duty and pick up 5+ kills easily.

I think this kind of thing will happen less frequently as the game ages a bit and people get used to being patient and watch their positioning. Sometimes you'll just get unlucky though. When I play with my friends we run what we call a blitz composition with bangalore, pathfinder and bloodhound and we play aggressively and try to interrupt ongoing firefights, we all pop our ultimates at the same time under double smokes and we try to make sure we have guns like the LMGs and Peacekeeper or Wingman which are all very good for aggressive play. Works well, we usually let the smoke linger for a bit then the pathfinder drops a good zipline and I call in the artillery strike and bloodhound gets aggressive since he can see through the smoke. Pretty much can't survive this level of aggression.

I wouldn't mind add-ons to the map in the future to make it bigger...or an entirely new map with a 50/50 chance of which map is selected for the match.

I understand your "frustration" but thats why this game is such a gem in the BR scene.

Most BR have such a punishing TTK that if you want to win you play safe.

Here you have a chance, and for me it gives me a rush.
Hell we are a sandwich team! We drop hotzones, loot, kill and then the hunt is on.

We hear gun shot's to the left? Insta balloon to that spot.

I love it!!!

Sometimes we die in the hotzone cause of the run to the first gun or armor we lose but hell its so much fun.

Nothing more fun to drop market and have a 4man brawl punching eachother to dead cause nobody found a weapon yet :')

We went into 20 games and kept track of each one. 17 of these games were matches we lost due to sandwiching, and the other 3 were just us hiding out until endgame. we even landed in the swamp area one time, spent a few minutes looting without a single enemy there, because it was so far away from the dropship, and eventually far away from the ring. All of a sudden a squad showed up, and we started fighting. It went well, until ANOTHER squad showed up, rushing us until we all died. I got the feeling that i was "cursed" in a way, but starting to look more on the logical solutions now. 

My theory for this is that the map is either too small or too "Zoned". I've never experienced sandwiching this often in other BR games and those games usually have larger maps, and more broad ones. Apex has a lot smaller map with bigger differences in the zones themselves, for example the desert region vs the jungle river kinda region. 

Well i guess i made this post to see what other people think. Is this something you experience aswell? Whats your thoughts about it?

This happens to us pretty much most matches now,it was none existent in the beggining.

I do like the strat. I myself main Bloodhound and my friend play bangalore, and i just love it when he pops smoke, which basically allows me to get free kills.

Thing is, for me atleast, the sandwich happens so frequently and out of control that I basically cant do anything about it when it occurs. I've had a few sandwiches where it felt so satisfying when i get out of it aswell, so not saying its all bad. But as an example, yesterday me and my friends landed and the ring happened to spawn on the other side of the map. We prepared for a running kinda game, so we looted up and went straight for the baloon to cover more distance. We landed right next to a gunfight, as we thought we were gonna use the sandwich strat this time. We sat in waiting for a little while until we noticed a window to engage. And not to over exaggerate, but the second we started to walk towards them, we got flanked by 2 other squads, so it was just a massive chaos. we couldnt see them as this took place in the hill zone kinda in the middle, so they came from the top of the slope and at this point, we had 2 squads on one side and 2 on the other. 

Also, as @ronson122 mentioned, this is something that i've started to experience lately aswell, which was no issue at all in the beginning. Im not sure why, might be a meta strat, but it happens so often that it feels more coincidental than a strat.

Might also be that i only have 1 friend to play with most of the time so i always get a random player in my squad, which makes communication and planning alot harder. 

There are 2 things to avoid this from happening to you going forward. 

1) First and foremost, it falls on you and where you are positioned. Play the border of the circle. By doing that, you eliminate and entire side that you likely won't be attacked from. And if you do get attacked from outside the ring/zone, you have the upper hand as they take DoT. If you have a Pathfinder that does his job, he should have hacked some satellites for you. You can get a head start on the next circle that way. 

2) I mentioned Pathfinder earlier and there are other legends with escape perks but when i get in a fire fight, I will almost always place a zipline and announce to my team I placed the zipline to escape is necessary. 

The bottom line is that it depends on your positioning. Gun shots are heard cities away on this map so its very likely when you are in 1 fire fight, you are attracting thirsty teams to your location. don't get too caught up looting, kill your foe and move on. 

you can also adjust your playstyle to run to where you hear gunshots. If you think about it, vulturing is very rewarding. when one team wipes another team, 9/10 times they immediately go for looting and completely ignore the world around them. I've caught enemies in the middle of Finishing moves several times because they got too cocky. I've caught whole teams looting 1-2 loot crates from dead enemies. It sucks because I like to play Pathfinder and like to play as an Overwatch (military term, not blizzard game) for my team. It tends to hurt me as I dont get the loot but at least my team isnt being ran up on while they loot. 

For it's being forced to squad up entirely. When I'm not playing with friends, there's nothing I would rather do less, than queue with a level 7 with 0 kills, can't aim for *, and barely knows how to play the game. I would 100% rather solo queue than try and carry someone not worth my time.

Such a shame that someone else might be less experienced than you. I bet you are also super helpful to them based on your response here and help them learn the game. *rolls eyes*
