Not Opening Apex Packs

I have 200+ some legendary and I've read some concerning things around the web. There has been no purchases of packs. I'm wondering if...

...There a limit to the amount you can hold?

...There's a possibility to miss out on event items once the event is over?

...What would happen when I open to many in a row?

Iv been spending all my crafting materials on white/blue skins to 'choke up the float' so when I open my packs it increases the probability of higher tier loot.

   Am I wasting my time?

   Should I just open them?

As far I'm aware, you can hold as many apex packs on your account as you'd like, though it's not something that's done by a lot of players, so it's not sure what would happen if you exceed x amount of packs.

You can still get event items from event packs when the event is over, so you don't have to worry about that.

If you purchased the items from the event and purchased the event packs, then you'll get your apex coins back for opening the apex pack.

Opening many in a row will not really change anything, every pack has their own luck factor determined, so everything will be different.

Though do note that buying low tier cosmetics will not increase your chance of getting a legendary.

You'll start getting more crafting materials instead of those lower tier skins

Especially with the amount of quips, sprays and charms there are just too many low-tier items you'll be able to get, in the end it would be worth way more to buy the items you'd like with those crafting materials instead of doing this.

This would only work with event/thematic packs, as those cannot give you any duplicates.

So if there are 20 skins in an event, and you've already bought 10, then you're guaranteed to get one of those other 10 skins in your next pack.

I'm sorry to say this, but I'm afraid you've wasted all those crafting materials.

In the end, you'll have a higher chance of earning them back... though it won't increase the chance for getting a legendary.

  • @TranscidNot having whites and blues will NOT increase your chances for higher tier loot. You will just get crafting materials instead of the white and blue items. You are wasting your materials because you only get half the mats compared to what you are using them on.

Trust me. For multiple seasons now I've owned every blue item. I get pack after pack of blue crafting materials.

  • @Transcid And yeah just open the packs. There really is no point in saving them up other than doing a pack binge.

One other thing to add to the excellent points so far, @Transcid, is just a heads up about those event packs.

If those event packs were part of a collection event that awarded an heirloom/skin for collecting every event item, you will not receive the related heirloom/skin if the event has already ended by the time you get around to opening those packs.

That item would just be added to the Mythics section of the store requiring you to spend heirloom shards once the event has ended.

Just one more reason you may consider opening those types of packs as you get them rather than saving them up. 🙂

  • @Transcid“Am I wasting time?” Yes.
“Should I just open them?” Yes.

Don’t forget to consider that Apex adds 40 items in the basic cosmetic pool now every season in thematic events.

The way the apex pack randomizer works is that all the items you already own and don’t own yet have an equal chance of being picked. If the randomizer picked an item you already own, it will convert it to the equivalent (based on rarity) crafting metals. The more you wait, the more they add bloat, the less chance you have of getting legendary cosmetics as more blue items are added than legendary/gold items.

Also, opening 30 packs guarantees you to 1 legendary cosmetic. The only time I would suggest to save up the apex packs is if you literally own every cosmetic like The Gaming Merchant.

  • @Transcid I did just that spent a lot on skins and such to have better odds for high tier items and it didn’t work just started getting tons of crafting metals I found the odds of getting the legendary skins or gun skins this way didn’t increase any

@Cheese9Man I also feel like event items that get added to the regular loot pool have a higher rarity than regular items. I opened 100 packs like 2 weeks ago, and I didn’t get any of the 120 event items (120 before the new additions). It feels like it’a impossible to get any from a pack, even tho I know it can be done.
