Now that it is over, what are your plans?

I have finished the battle pass, the current event, not much point to playing other than goofing around.  Today I did my daily just because I could.  That was over in two rounds.  I walked around WE as Bangalore and the crowd seems extra blood thirsty.  We were down to 6 teams before the first ring closing.  That took all of 6 minutes.  On that BR I decided to just walk around without a weapon.  I got to #2 no problem.  Just love it when they are so kill crazed they do all the heavy lifting for you.  I often wonder what the other team must think, when I am in center of the last ring doing emotes and carrying nothing.

My plan is to jump on once a day and get with a friend twice a week. My friend likes to walk around and touch the grass too.  Other than that, it is just wait for the next season to drop.  Meanwhile I have Eve Online, it is somewhat nostalgic of an very old game I played in the 80's called "Starflight" by EA.  Starflight wasn't an online game, they just have some similarities to each other.

Other than games to keep this old man busy, I am binge watching a lot of streaming on my Roku.  I dropped Netflix because everything seemed to be free elsewhere.  All I am required to do is sit through 1 or 2 commercials. Ah the commercials,  another slice of nostalgia there, along with having a TV without a remote and 2 knobs to change the channel... aluminum foil on the rabbit ears.

  • @Xubunnytwo After all the Rank stuff happening in Euro, you really made me smile with your post." I often wonder what the other team must think, when I am in center of the last ring doing emotes and carrying nothing." &
"My plan is to jump on once a day and get with a friend twice a week. My friend likes to walk around and touch the grass too. " ... priceless !

I don't really have an agenda to not play, but I haven't been playing.

I admit, sometimes grinding keeps me going, but the problem here is, I see nothing much worth pursuing without a viable Ranked system.  I haven't even come by for Control, which is my favorite game mode.

What's distracted me is Overwatch 2, which, by the way, is REALLY BAD. I mean, if you believe what is being said about it.  Honestly, what it really is, is, just the exact same.  It's called 2, but it really is Overwatch 1.  Not even Overwatch 1.1,  It's Overwatch, with a patch, and Overwatch had patches and will continue to have patches.  That's really what the rage is all about, the stupid hype train Blizzard wanted everyone to jump on, and then delivered...truly nothing.

OW2 is a battle pass format now, because, again, if you are a vapor breathing company executive, then you think that's how you 'monetize' a game.  (quick aside here....how much 'monetization' happened after killing OW, then never having OW 2 break even close to the popularity of OW1?...I'm betting a lot less...genius).  Now what that means is I can play OW2 with spending...none more money.  But I'M THE PRODUCT! Right?  Except here's the problem, also, great big thinkers of monetization....if you have a bunch of games all doing the same thing, getting people to wander from 1 game to another, because they mostly suck, rather than locking into your game, because it's good.....how does that work either?  What would you like to do now? Throw me commercials like Candy Crush?

Point is, neither Apex or Overwatch have had staying power.  Right now, I wandered to OW because it's different, and because I used to play it a lot.  I expect it will wear down in interest again, but in the meantime, yeah, I don't need to be worrying about no Ranked play Apex, or SPESHUL EVENTZ for SENDING UZ MONEY!  Not in either game.

  • @Xubunnytwo Personally, I don't stick to playing 1 game. I tend to log some time on 4-5 different games each day that I game, so I never really get burned out on anything. I'm almost level 80 on the current Battle Pass, so I'll finish that before the season ends, no problem. My overall gaming time has been reduced as of late, but I'm normally done with the BP by now. With not gaming as much in general, and the other games I'm playing as well, I always have something to entertain me when I am gaming.

    Currently playing:
    Apex Legends
    Destiny 2
    Farming Simulator '22
    Madden '23 (MUT)
    NHL '23 (HUT)
    SW Jedi: Fallen Order
Titanfall 2 (finally played it and love it, just working on finishing campaign on Master with all pilot helmets, but Viper is annoying)
Gears of War 3 (working on first-ever playthrough of franchise, and loving it so far)
    Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
    Dragon Ball Z Kakarot
Forza Horizon 5 & Motorsport 5 (new racing wheel)
Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)

I'm probably forgetting a couple that I'm currently working on, but that's most of them. Variety keeps things fresh!
  • @Xubunnytwo My son recently bought path of titans. It's quite relaxing just running around growing a dinosaur. The only scary moments are when big toxic dinos come.

Well, not being that guy who is motivated by rank grinding, ltm grinding, battlepass grinding, challenge grinding, or any other form of grindiness, I have to say I still enjoy the odd match of pubs here and there. And I'm patiently awaiting some kind of sbmm change, though what that might look like I shudder to think.

Though to be honest, I've been spending less time in Apex lately because I've been spending more time in Halo Infinite forge. Yes, the game itself is a hot mess, and the more I read about 343 and Micro$oft, the more disappointed I am overall with everything they do. As one ex-343 employee put it, "They can spend $68 billion (yes, Billion with a "B") on Activision but they need to cut 60+ people from 343...." But the new forge mode is 70% brilliant and the other 30% will come over time... unless those were the guys that got laid off.

I keep telling everyone! That's what I want back! GIVE ME TITANFALL 3!

I'd give it a try, but no X-Box. We got a PS4 and a Switch (and the Switch is technically the kid's, but he shares with the whole house).

That said, I have been finding Animal Crossing oddly relaxing in the evenings when the kid is at work. And just finished up DooM Eternal. That last battle...  perfection.

@Kyldenar Animal crossing is weirdly addictive......until one of your kids raids your money trees!
  • Today I notice they are adding a last minute Lunar New Years Event.  I looked over the prizes and not much there to do either.  I am glad to hear everyone is doing something other than waiting on Apex season 16.  @hayhor I am going to check out that Sim Dinosaur game, the website appears to be interesting.  @reconzero I haven't played any Halo since Combat Evolved dropped on the PC.  That was back in my XP days... I wonder if I can get that working by now in my Linux OS?  Probably not. 😞

@dSKyNafinchin I hope you will remember to eat and go for a walk to the bathroom.  That is an uber long list of games. @KelRiever all I can reply to that is, you should have chosen Mercy

As I said, the only other online game I currently play is Eve Online.  For those of you who never played, it is not the reflexive skill PvP, it is strategic PvP.  I honestly cannot recommend it to anyone here, since Apex is like squirrel hunting as to Eve Online is like chess on a more massive scale.  Obviously it will not appeal to everyone.

    Happy Chinese New Year!

    - Mechwarrior 5
    - Stellaris
    - X4 Foundations
    - Total War Warhammer 3
    - Division 2
    - Escape from Tarkov. That's why I don't get stressed over death in Apex. You can lose a week's persistent loot in realistic 1-2 shots.
    - Astrox Imperium - Really nice space sim like Eve online, made by solo developer

Finally had reason to play Witcher 3 and DLCs. Never did a 2nd playthrough until earlier this year. True masterpiece of developers who cared.
