@reconzero I lived in New England for 30 years and California for the last 20. It's not as great as you might think. People are more polite on the surface but are often harbor a nasty side of passive aggression and two-faced behavior.

Same in Tokyo right now against gaijins (foreigners) because they’re judged as “dirty” and brought the virus over. Foreigners also don’t wear masks. While it is not mandated by law, it is still expected that you still do with the expectation that you always think of the people around you. You would notice this in subways where Japanese people would rather stand than seat beside a foreigner. Just the weird differences between cultures that are individualistic and collectivist. It’s not always greener on the other side.
My family and friends are very judgmental of the USA right now because of the “school” events that happened. On the other hand I’m planning a trip to Orlando next year.
