I'm suspicious that you may be having internet issues - being shot at while behind cover???
I just played three rounds. Enemy bots still seem tame to me. I would always catch them looting death boxes before re-shielding. They shot at me but with little more success than last season. My own squad seems less coordinated. They respond slower to enemy pings, and while they stuck to me like glue sometimes (as they did last season) they weren't consistent about it and more than once got into a fight without me. You know how that ended for them.
It was good to see some new legends in the mix and nice to have a new circle even if it is on the same map. I'd prefer a full map and full 20 squad match, but it's still fun.
And the bug that wouldn't allow me to loot death boxes has been fixed, so points to the dev for that.

I'm on PC wit 1gb speeds and had a similar issue where they were hitting me behind cover. There could have been a little gap though, who knows.
