Has there been another change to matchmaking recently?

So since the end of the weekend just passed I began noticing that my teammates were becoming... lower in quality. Since the beginning of this season qp became a lot more sweaty due to the matchmaking becoming tighter, with myself having teammates that were ok and going against master/pred (which while sweaty and quickly ending, wasn't the worst). But recently I've noticed every game except a small few have had low level players in my game and my overall teammates skill has plummeted but still being placed against the same master/pred 3 stacks + now cheaters but that a different thing altogether so its not important. So, what's happened? Did the matchmaking change, become less strict or have there just been a large drop in players recently?

My opinion it’s always like this I have my bar maxed and sometimes I get great teammates other times I get teammates that don’t understand anything ab the game and can’t aim at all. I think a lot of ppl have soft cheats too in this game like walls and stuff like that bc the amount of times I die to someone while I’m healing and they’re not even the ones that I was fighting and they just walk right up to me where I’m hiding to heal. That or I’m on top of something to heal and not even the person I’m fighting just randomly knows exactly where I’m at no recon legends either. Mixtape u can see replays and some ppl are hitting all headshots not missing a single shot when I’m jumping down from something than hits all body shots without missing but eventually starts missing every shot and playing bad like they have a hotkey. Who knows just very sus.

  • Just my experience here:

The beginning of this season saw a major change to sbmm, but it only affected people on the left side of the bell curve. Those matches typically had a very narrow skill range. As soon as you pass the peak of the curve into the right side it's all bets off. Those matches are the same as they ever were with wide skill ranges, sometime half of the curve or more inside the grey bar. If you're on the left side of the curve the matches are tight, although there are still a lot of smurfs making sure that there is no such thing as a truly tight lobby. On the right side of the curve everyone is still playing a secondary, but, as noted by everyone, the higher you go then the wider the spread and the more likely you are to get cheaters and stacks, or maybe even stacking cheaters. Nothing surprises me anymore. It's the wild wild west. And it's on the player to sort of take the bull by the horns and manage their own experience. By which I mean downward manage their own mmr. Which you have to do or otherwise end up in one unplayable lobby after another. And hoping to rank grind to some reasonable level that you attained with minimum fuss fifteen seasons ago? Forget about that. Don't even go into ranked. If you're not actively cheating then you'll hit the wall at platinum somewhere, maybe D4. Just buy your pred account like everyone else, I guess.

  •

heres another one for you. wtf is this.

and they claim its better than ever and everything is fine.

explain to me what is fine and okay with 3 STACK PREMADE pred vs plat/diamond solo queuers.

the very next game, check this out, this time i got a masters in my party, just the two of us. And the champion squad. YOU TELLING ME WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE FUN COMPETING AS SOLO QUEUERS VS THESE 3 STACK PREAMDES PREDS? Nah they all can be put in their own queue. so what if the queue is a minute longer. ill wait an extra minute or two for a better matchmaking.

I've noticed this in pubs too over the past week or so. Every game I play, I am right at the right-hand end of the distribution curve. Basically, the flat line. I'm not even a 1 KDR player. However, games like this should be impossible for me but I'm just about holding my own, which indicates to me the curve is garbage and MMR is garbage too.

  • It's a bit strange, agreed.   I don't play ranked as it's just a toxic cesspool until you get to higher ranks (everyone hot drops, goes on their own, etc) and I just can't deal with that.  It's awful.

Pubs was great for ages but in the last couple of weeks it's just tanked.  My KD has dropped 20%, avg damage dropped 20% and I am overnight a total garbage player because it keeps putting me up against people well above my ability.  I don't get it.

But, in pubs, the ranking graph is appreciated.  I'd like some sort of explanation as to how I am ranked rock bottom game after game after game.  It's statistically significant and happens all the time.  So tired of that.  Why am I rock bottom over and over again?  Why do you insist on giving me absolutely green team mates game after game (I am not toxic to them, I try to help as it's not their fault they were grouped with me).  But seriously.  Just why?  How am I rock bottom about 25% of my games and bottom half probably around 70% of my games?  Just why?  I so seldom get good team mates and am constantly getting smashed these days through absolutely no fault of my own.  I'm not good enough to constantly take on 3 players at a time.

Overall result... less playtime.  When it goes like that I just play something else.  There ins't much point in just being a KD pill for someone.

It's so hit and miss.  I appreciate that the match making can only deal with what is in front of it so maybe the problem is it's later in the season and it's just sweats I'm paired up against (which I have zero interest in playing).  I'm not sure.  It would be nice if we could get the EA bods here to confirm or give some insight into this as in the last 2 weeks it's like night and day.  I went from being an OK player to garbage overnight which is pretty hard to swallow.  But that results in less playtime and less engagement for you which should concern you.

As an aside I find it humorous those people who brag about their KD of 3 or 4.  All that tells me is you are in lobbies you don't belong in and you are just smashing noobs.  Not the flex you think bro and probably contributes to dwindling player numbers.  But, hey, you're awesome.

  • I came back a little bit after several months off and it is worse than ever.  For some reason, Apex still thinks I'm really good despite the results.  Those results are me and my random teammates getting obliterated repeatedly.  And yet, my squad still somehow gets put into top half lobbies based on the distribution chart at the beginning of the match.  Absolute dogwater.
