in my personal opinion
it's the cost of building or buying a gaming PC in terms of money and time, and the ease of use of the console ( just download and play ) that drove me off PC gaming.
one time i tried installing Apex on a desktop belonging to a friend of mine and the first thing I had to do to start the game was google the error I was getting which was changing some text in a cfg of whatever the file name was.
and it ended that the game was choppy, lagging with huge frame drops so it was an immediate delete.
not only Apex but gaming on PC, in general, is very costly, every couple of years the GPU needs to be upgraded so sometimes the motherboard needs to be upgraded to be compatible with the GPU then comes the CPU, and let's throw some more rams while we are on it .....Nah console is just downloading the game, updating it, and enjoy it don't have to worry about errors, crashes, and all kinds of things.
nowadays especially with the X and PS5, the performance is not bad at all considering that you just need to buy it once and never think about hardware for the next 7 years.
I had PS3, PS4 and now the PS5 and never got my console into a repair shop, just the regular cleaning which I used to do by myself and the PS4 is still alive and kicking and i passed it to my son who is now playing Apex Legends with it ( almost a decade of usage with almost zero additional cost )
one last thing is that I use the console for everything it's my entertainment center ( gaming, YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, movies etc, etc )
I own a laptop and a PC but that's only for work so why bother with gaming PC hassle when I can have it the easy way with console?
I understand and completely agree that gaming on PC is superior in every single aspect and I actually wish I had the time and energy to worry about keeping my PC upgraded and ready for the next title, not to mention the spare budget for something like that which I prefer spending it on something else more important other than a PC
