Re: How do people figure 8 strafe at warp speed?

@OldTreeCreeper They've never given algs folk permission to do things regular folk can't. The only weird thing I remember is they said algs folk cannot use punch boosting to move around the map.

The gray area is because they've come out and said some cfg file modifications are OK but others are not. This is confusing. It isn't published what is or isn't allowed but the devs themselves have said some stuff is ok. Neostrafing is ok from what I remember seeing.

  • @hayhor for the purposes of clarity can you link to an official statement on the some cfg files adjustment are OK please?

As to the algs rulebook for the previous competition (not in the current one) : (there appears to be a few versions of the older one) but generally they say the same:

    Game Files

Competitors may only add or edit the following Game files:

    ● local.cfg

    ● autoexec.cfg

Competitors may only add or edit the following lines in the files specified above:

    ● fps_max

    ● mat_letterbox_aspect_goal

    ● mat_letterbox_aspect_threshold

It would be great to get a clear answer on whether modifying CFG files is a bannable offense.

I've seen multiple threads on Answers HQ saying that using superglide CFG files is not allowed, based on the Terms of Service. However, there are also many voices in the community saying that using superglide CFG files is not a bannable offense.

Can we get a clear answer on this question? It seems to me that this falls under the category of a macro, and should not be allowed. On the other hand, if this type of activity is not going to be punished in any way, that would make it in everyone's best interest as a competitor to start using these modifications. Is this activity encouraged, or should we be reporting players who use these modifications? It would be great to have a clear answer on this.

@Collector321 I think you really know that the answer to that question, as it is already abundantly clear in the EA tos, and I don't see that changing in any way soon, as that would open a real can of worms. Other voices in the community that you are hearing at the moment are obfuscation.

When you access or use an EA Service, you agree that you will not:

    6. Rules of conduct

    • Modify any file or any other part of the EA Service that EA does not specifically authorize you to modify.

Thanks, that is what I was hoping you would say. 🙂

@OldTreeCreeper To be fair, EA has not been and is not going to answer; I have spoken to Community managers a lot about what is bannable, and the most straightforward answer was someone (not saying who, so they don't see it as name and shame) telling me that they will not give a clear cut answer, saying that some configs are allowed while others are not and that I should use my best judgment. The ToS states that any game modification and glitch abuse is cheating, so tap strafing should be bannable since it is abusing the engine to move in unintended ways. Still, they aren't going to ban that, so they need to make the rules transparent instead of killing their game with poor management and nasty staff.

Problem is as time goes on more and more people will start using cfs, macros and scripts and more difficult it will become for EA/Respawn to ban them if they dont want to lose a portion of their  player base. Its a vicious circle and its not helping them not being able to give you a clear answer about what is allow and what not
