@hayhorHaven't purchased a prepaid plan prior to owning a flip phone, which is 20+ years ago, so I wouldn't know how much they go for today, but if you're paying 20-30$ per prepaid plan (random guess), then I would assume you're still drastically cutting the smurfs, and cheaters, if that's the price you need to pay for a smurf account.
I use a plan for my phone in the Philippines and a prepaid plan in Japan. I can imagine other people moving from country to country as well having prepaid cards. I heard that a lot of people from the EU use prepaid phones?
There are other ways to counter smurfing. Even my bank doesn’t require a post paid plan then why is it a game have stricter rules? Getting to level 10 is too easy in apex to join rank. Smurfs are not a big problem in pubs.
Btw if Apex did this, I would not be mad. We need this type of roadmaps. Btw, cross progression in a game where it didn’t initially have one same with Fall Guys which was initially an indie game. The excuse of legal concerns is just simply that, an excuse.
- @Cheese9Man Smurfs are too a big issue in pubs. I'd argue just as much as ranked. Ranked gets the headlines due to all the solo to masters crap but playing pubs exclusively I see smurfs nonstop.
- Kyldenar3 years agoSeasoned Ace@Cheese9Man Do you have to use the blizzard launcher/installer for this, or is it on Steam?
Ugggghhhhh... BattleNet... my old enemy returns! {flashbacks to SC2 BS... } - @Cheese9Man I love OW. I love Apex more, but I want OW2 to succeed for the simple fact that I want there to be pressure on Respawn to bring their A game in various fashions.
Competition is a good thing for us consumers. - @Cheese9Man I've seen people saying OW2 is just a re-release of OW. Do you feel this way?
@Kyldenar I’m on console but I suggest making your profile on the website first.
@Axs5626Sxa5001 Same here. The small stuff in Apex pisses me off like the new blinding light bug when you’re outside of the circle. Respawn seem so slow with the fixes. I know development is hard but sometimes the bugs last too long.
@hayhor Kinda yes. It’s like Apex with a huge restructuring. It’s like Apex decided that the main game now is a 4-man team instead of trios. The main game philosophy is the same but the feel is so much better and balanced being 5v5 instead of the old 6v6.
Other than servers exploding on day 1 and the prepaid phone issue gatekeeping some players, I have no problems with the game yet. I see media outlets overblowing the issue with the heroes not being available immediately. You can easily get all the heroes in 50 games for FREE.
If you haven’t tried it yet, I suggest trying it since it’s free.
Edit: Team 7 (OW devs) has been great with communication so far. They learned (the hard way) that communication is so important when it comes to live-service games. They just made this long post on what happened to servers, addressing the issues and what they’re doing about just after 1 day of the issues. BTW they their forums now unlike Respawn who’ll never even visit this site.

I would be fine with this....actually it would make me happy and I also would welcome it to Apex. Anything to stop the smurphs and cheating/hacking.
I got owed yesterday by a level 3 player. While spectating, he was kill leader with 8 kills and over 2000 damage before the first ring even started to move.
I continued to watch. He went on to destroy everything in his path with god like movement, aim and strategy. Knew the map like a pro.
Did I mention he was a level 3??
So at this point, I'll agree to anything that brings the gaming industry back under control and away from the iron claw that hackers and cheaters have gripped around this industry.
- @Cheese9Man I do plan to try it. I've seen some streamers playing and am very skeptical I'll enjoy it. It looks like Paladins with too much emphasis on abilitites and players lack movement. But again, I'll try it before deciding.
One thing to remember- Comparing OW2 and Apex is a bit misleading. One is a BR that requires 60 players in a lobby with much larger maps. Communication on release of a game is always pretty good. Even respawn was good with this during the first year or so. - NickBeam273 years agoSeasoned Ace@hayhor Entirely different Dev team back then. Remember how good they were with staying engaged with the player base. Every patch had every detail explained and mentioned. This new Dev team does many changes without notifying the player base. Will never understand that one. Including changing gun spray patterns without any mention.
Not good business practice. - @NickBeam27 That initial team stopped communicating though. I remember when they started leaving and the new ones started communicating. People on here were excited the new people were doing it better. Again, it's a first impression thing and all it really is. I bet a year from now people are complaining about lack of communication for OW2.
