- @Zeelmaekers How does it remove lag? I could see a gaming VPN being better than a basic VPN but I don't get how going from a direct connection to a VPN connection will do it.
@hayhor
a VPN will route your connection differently and more efficiently than some ISP's can. That improves connection stability and even lowers ping sometimes!
- @Zeelmaekers Ok thank you. Was not aware and some basic Google searching didn't give me a good answer.
Thank you and thanks everyone for helping me with this problem.
@hayhoror because EA is to greedy and stingy to pay for a good connection with telekom germany. has been a problem for years now and nothing is done. as telekom germeny user you cant play half of the day due to packetloss up to 70%. absolutely unacceptable. EA says telekom is at fault, telekom says its EAs fault. in the end it just comes down to money and we all know how EA is in that matter
so vpn is a workaround for that problem... when confronting EA they even told me to use vpn. pay whatever it costs just to play apex instead of fixing THEIR problem.
"as telekom germeny user you cant play half of the day due to packetloss up to 70%"
This may be true for you but is not the case for all in Germany.
I have been playing from Berlin the last 5 years and my ISP is O2 and since we are in Germany we all know that the main trunk lines belong to Telekom.
So the problem could be many things: ISP, Telekom, Internet router settings, PC/Console settings, Server.
IRL I have to actually work with Telekom as they are a service provider for some places I take care of and Telekom can be difficult and they are actually a bit behind the times. How many places within Germany cannot have wired internet because Telkom just cant get the main trunk lines right or laid out.
@Asmodeus566oh not again the standard aswer that it could be my router....
thousends of telekom user from germany have that problem, and ONLY telekom. o2 probably has their own contracts, and telekom is too expensive and EA too greedy stingy to pay that. so EA routes or however it is called their connection with talia, a third party company, evading telekom but giving us super bad connection. dont know how to say it different. but thats a fact, its not my router or something.
and its a problem for 5 years, telekom knows it, EA knows it. they have both admitted that their is a problem but they dont fix it.I only added the router as it could be that, not saying it is that.
My bet would be on Telekom because they always like to push the blame.
I spent 4 hours at a residence with a Telkom tech one time trying to fix a phone line connection and they kept on saying it was the internal line that had the problem and not them. After exhausting all options on the site with no solution the Telekom Tech went to the nearest main trunk line connection off site 300 meters down the road and found out the issue was with their Trunk line.
Irrespective of what service provider one has in Germany once the internet connection leaves the building it connects with Telekom's main trunk lines, Telkom is the sole owner of all of the main lines in Germany. This goes back to when Telekom had the sole monopoly on Telecommunications in Germany until it was broken up and other ISP/Telephone providers could provide services yet Telekom still owns all of the main trunk lines.
EA's servers are not the best and we all know that. EA could and should do better here.
However in Germany we are at the mercy of Deutsche-Telekom.
- @Asmodeus566 even if telekom owns all the main lines, doesnt change anything. other ISPs can get a stable connection to the EA server so its not about the lines where the problem is. its some contract or whatever and it comes down to money, like it always is. and EA is paying probably a fraction for the connection using talia or others thanfor the connection to other ISPs... so i dont think thats only on telekom, no...
but it doesnt matter anyways, we had this problem for 5 years or something, its not gonna change, we are screwed, both telekom and EA do not care at all.
so basically only play at night or at times where not so many people are playing or buy a vpn for 100€ or something, + router to set it up on xbox etc etc. i dont know what i would have to do to get a vpn running on xbox and i dont care, for the state of apex right now i dont give another € to EA or to anyone just to play apex)
so to end this, yes vpn is allowed and even necessary to play at times....
