It's not so much about vaulting weapons, it is about never ending expansions. Pretty soon, you're going to be saying the same things about characters, because there are getting to be too many of them.
People want free games that they actually pay more money for each year than a full video game. So in order for them to throw their cash away, a company has to keep expanding a game, even if that never cease expanding a game is bound to break the said game people dumped their cash on. But that's what you get. If you never stop expanding at 1 weapon and 1 character a season, it's only a matter of time before things on those lists start becoming useless compared to the rest of the available list.
Maybe vaulting is an option, but I think it's going to be a bad answer no matter what with the pop game design culture that is freemium.
