Re: Making console players and PC players cross-play by default would be foolish

@CCbathwater Bro, this issue actually occurred half a month ago. At that time, I had already reported the bug on this forum, and community moderators acknowledged being aware of it. It's disheartening to see that it is still happening now. Regardless of whether they have fixed this problem, I believe they should at least provide a notification about the situation to keep the community informed.

@M4ssacres I've been having this issue for like 2 months though. Just full on PC. 11 PC kids and me in Gun Run. 🤡
My friend apparently doesn't get as many PC's as she said: "I don't know why you get so many, I don't seem to run into as many as you do." To which I replied: "Well, maybe my MMR is just so good it puts me in PC hacker lobbies." 😏

The only fun is ripping on them. Had this Wraith who claimed it was her first game 😏 We had a lengthy discussion about everything PC and console. She claimed she wasn't cheating. Told her she needed to upgrade her 386 cpu to an i486, maybe then she could run Apex and cheats at the same time. She claimed PC was better than console. I claimed it's only better if you wanna wall, aimbot, speedhack, infinite charge rifle, floating Gibby, force people to reload, etc.. Well yes, that's basically the only fun there is on the game atm.. I've just gone back to Star Trek now. 13 year old game and no crossplay. ☺️ Someone in my Armada used to play it on PC but has moved to console now, as they said: "I had to use a mod that let me avoid all the modders." 🤡

@CCbathwater Anyway, it is foolish and unreasonable to default to cross-play between PC and console players. The purpose of cross-play is to allow players from different platforms to game together, not to subject PC and console players to a frustrating and highly unfair competition. Although APEX may not be the best in this regard for now, they are certainly much better than simply forcing PC and console players to cross-platform matchmaking by default. I truly hope they don't do something stupid that would harm APEX.
  • @M4ssacres I have also read that post, and the author himself expressed low possibility. Anyway, one of the reasons why I still choose to play Apex Legends on PS5 is because the closed system environment of consoles can maintain game balance to the maximum extent and provide a gaming experience free from cheating. I also think it's foolish to automatically match PC and next-gen console players together. But nothing is conclusive, so let's keep an open mind.
  • @M4ssacres Exactly. All they would have to do is say, "Hey, we know this isn't ideal, but it is a bug and we are working on fixing it. Sorry in the meantime, it's not what we intend."
Instead, the silence makes it seem like they're experimenting on purpose to see what the community's reaction is.
  • @CCbathwater The feeling is mutual bud.  I have quit playing due to being in console lobbies constantly.  Not that the competition is too hard, it is just frustrating to watch roller players look at the ceiling and their feet and still be able to 1 clip with a 99 or car.  This is like playing basketball against someone who cannot stand more than 15 seconds but still drains shots like Larry Bird.

PC does not have more cheats than console.  It is just that the console cheats are much more subtle than dumb rage hacking PC kiddos.  But I assume more console kids will now go out and buy that Cronus or other similar cheap hardware to get that competitive edge over the obviously cheating PC kids and further down we go.  Lance Armstrong disorder race to the bottom.

This is just the way it works going forward.  Competitive integrity is long gone.

I don't feel that Respawn's assumption that MnK is superior just is accurate enough to justify their current approach, IMO.  Making crossplay mandatory for PC players but options for console players is just garbage and this idea of putting next gen console players in PC lobbies by default is just as bad.

I'm sorry to the AA apologists but I've been one clipped in close quarters by roller players way too many times to say it is pure skill or luck.  Input based lobbies with crossplay optional is the only way I can think of making this closer to 'fair' but with emulators, Strike Packs, cheats, & scripts being so prevelant I don't know how they'd be able to tell.

@Giftwilliam117 In what bubble are you living in my friend ? Consoles are just as full with cheaters as pc if not significantly more since it’s much cheaper safer and easier to cheat there

I will just leave one more word here:
    Cronus
  • @matzesingt Nailed the head my man!  Unfortunately there are other cheating methods for them than just Cronus.  That just happens to be the most commonly used and easily available.  The price of some of them is the same or lower than a month or 2 of paid PC cheats.  These are not detected or banned for in Apex AFAIK.

It is hilarious to me that some people still think consoles can't cheat.  This is like saying something is not hackable nowadays.

  • @matzesingt
It isn't common knowledge that console players are capable of it now.
It used to never be a thing. Even then I'm not sure it's nearly as common as coming across a PC cheater, but I could be wrong.

@XxColdFangxX Well that depends on how d you consider strikepacks like Cronus cheating, if yes then I am pretty confident that they will be pretty even. And only because we have by now a lot of controllerplayers on pc if you couldn’t play with controller on pc then the amount of cheaters would be much higher on console. It’s just so easy cheap and safe to cheat with controller :-/

But raw software cheats are much more rare on console.
  • @matzesingt
Yeah I have no clue how to tell whose using either, or much about what they do.
I know strikepacks give extra paddles for button mapping and mods, but I don't know if you can use them with out making use of the mods because I don't see a problem with button mapping.
And cronus is some kind of controller adapter?? If that's the case it would have to depend on the controller.

@matzesingt Since he hasn't replied, let me answer this question on his behalf. I fully agree with @Giftwilliam117's viewpoint. While I acknowledge the existence of Cronus, it is evident that Cronus is not as absurd as it may seem. You should indeed take the time to understand how outrageous cheating on PC can be, including but not limited to aimbots, wallhacks, health locks, and armor absorption, which are functionalities that Cronus cannot achieve at all. Therefore, the capabilities of Cronus are far less than those various cheats available on PC. In simple terms, cheating does exist on console platforms, which cannot be denied, but the negative impact it has on regular players is significantly lighter compared to what those PC cheats can accomplish. No platform is entirely pure, but consoles indeed maintain a higher level of integrity.

@SacrificialSloth If possible, I'd like to see the videos you uploaded to YouTube, showcasing those cheats on console platforms that are even more powerful than Cronus. Obviously, if such cheats exist, their accessibility and awareness are much lower than the various cheats available on PC. Just by searching for Apex cheats on Google, almost 99% of the results are related to PC cheats, which speaks volumes. Again, I want to emphasize that console platforms are not completely cheats-free, but under normal circumstances, the gaming environment on consoles is undoubtedly better than that on PC platforms.
  • @M4ssacres
It's likely they won't be able to
At least not in the forums. I've been told ea doesn't take kindly to people talking about and describing the kinds of  cheats in the game.
They end up removing the post and even banning those that post them for a time.
Absolutely lame if you ask me, there's no harm in educating the community about what these cheats are doing and how to spot them.

They'll just look them up anyway.

  • @M4ssacres Not vids I uploaded (I did not say I uploaded vids, links to cheat devices/software/walkthroughs, which are forbidden on the forums).  Just use google and be amazed at the plethora of active working cheats for every platform.  Cronus, Strikepack, config files, ddos lobbies into oblivion (looking at you Xbox) etc etc etc.  Some of these methods either cheaper than PC cheats, or even free.

I never said more powerful than Cronus.  It just is not the only way for console players to cheat.  Yes, the come pay $$/month for cheats is almost always a PC thing.  But the buy the thing and tweak it to cheat status is definitely a thing for console users.

You are delusional if you think console cheats don't exist, or they only exist in small pockets.  This was the thought with PC cheats a decade ago and man was everyone wrong.

  • @M4ssacres I agree that cheating on pc can archive much more, but we also need to be real here, I played like 2500 hours on apex and I haven’t once seen a hacker with rage settings. Like seriously not a single time.people that do that expect to get banned and don’t really care.

Ofcourse I ran into a solid amount of people that I found very sus but it was never an obvious and blatant case. Maybe it’s just me, I played cs for very well over 20 years and I’ve seen a lot even on highest rank in go.

For me cheating is cheating how extreme it is, isn’t really relevant for me. I would also argue that someone using mnk with Cronus has a significant advantage over other controllerplayers. I probably ran into more than thousands of Cronus users on pc and console alike. Theese mods are a serious issue in apex.

When it comes to serious cheating on ps etc I am sure it’s possible. Once you crack that thing you can install whatever the f you want. But I never looked into it, and considering that consoleplayers are usually more on the casual side the number will be very low of people going that way.
  • @matzesingt I have definitely seen the rage settings in Apex.  They were s0-s1 era.  Agreed the closest you get nowadays is sus PC players.  I have been playing this game since s0 and have over 3k hours on PC.

Also remember that those software cheats available to PC are much easier to detect and circumvent.  I know COD tried once, but has Respawn ever detected and removed a player due to a controller mod (cronus or otherwise)?  So far, there are no negative consequences to using the hardware cheat.  This just means these options grow over time, and so does the population using them.
