Re: Patent for cheats

@Daze623

The reason to have a copyrighted/patent on a cheat is to have the legal grounds to keep it off the market. As the owner of it you control distribution.
Sure people can "counterfeit it". But that would lead to great troubles.
it would result in increased prices for cheats, excluding a large portion of cheaters who may have to think about before cheating.
As a consequence cheat makers would be less incentivized to join in the market, pushing prices even higher.
Only players who can afford to spend a lot of money on cheats would be left along with few providers.
All in all it would make the issue of cheating less relevant/common, and easier to fight.

Also, and this is a whole different point or strategy, if EA would have their own cheat developing department, they would in fact be a step ahead of cheaters, by being proactive, instead of reactive. And in so doing updating their anti cheat engine before cheats are independently developed and sold.
And what I mean here is, If EA actively works towards developing each and every way an aimbot can be written, then they could patch it before someone else finds how to build that specific aimbot. (same for other cheats).

It's not that easy to just update the anti-cheat and call it a day.
Fun fact: anti-cheat devs look for popular cheats and see how they work with their game to make it easier to detect them.
Cannot say if that's also the case for Apex but no need to develop your own cheats if there enough to adjust the detection to cheats that are in use.

Exactly because it is not that easy to update the anti-cheat and call it a day, and exogenous help may be just what is needed.

No need for "fun facts" sarcasm. Thank you.

if there are enough cheats detected to adjust the detection system, why are there so many cheaters still in game?

I understand you have a different point of view, and it's ok with me. You stated that already.

    Thank you for your input.

  • @Vdstrk you're overcomplicating it. There are copyright infringement laws specifically designed to address this in most countries and more should be added where they are missing. A patent would do absolutely nothing more to prevent cheating.
  • @Vdstrk They already have legal grounds to keep it off the market. The problem is that people who make cheats don't really make it easy to find them. I don't see cheat makers making their cheats expensive because no one would buy and two they just need to make sure they'll never be found.

Also about the proactively making cheats I can't really say for sure if this will be an effective solution or not as I'm not really well versed on anti-cheat but as far as I can remember anti-cheat mostly deals with how codes are injected to the game. I could be wrong though. One thing is for sure that's going to be costly for the developers side it might payout in the long run but knowing EA this is completely out of the table.
  • @Zeelmaekers if a company can't do their job accordingly they should not be in the business ( as long time business owner i understand this and so does EA but as long as they are banking billions it wont matter we keep playing and spending. And even if this game would die tomorrow EA has already made their bank so in the end only the bottom of the chains gets the issues we would lose a product we enjoy smh, EA will just move on to next money maker
