Re: Tap Strafing for Consoles too?

@warscorpion824 Tap strafing looks terrible and PC players are allowed to make key binds that make it too easy to do. I'd rather it just get removed.

@hayhor I agree, tap strafing is a dirty mechanic that shouldn’t be allowed, pc players get away with a lot of stuff, it seems like most pc players alter files too.

People should not be able to move while looting or managing inventory. Period.

  • Completely agree. No moving while looting a deathbox and no tap strafe.

It's confirmed they didn't intend for tap strafing to be in the game I'm guessing they can't remove it lol.

I do think it's nuts some of the pc stuff. Found out yesterday that OW2 has aim assist for controller turned off in pc lobbies and some fans are wanting apex to do the same. Winding me up, completely different game. You get beamed in the open in pc lobbies you can't do that with a controller. What pc players want is the upper hand in every situation because their pc is that much more expensive than a console.

The reason I think this is relevent is because it goes hand it hand with all the tap straffe etc. It doesn't matter what device you play on your experience should be the same. We all understand a mouse is better for mid to range and roller up close to maybe mid. But yeah everything else should be the same.

@Kyldenar Moving while looting isn't a big deal. Doing 180s in the air without touch anything is ridiculous though.

@hayhorIn particular as that essentially renders Horizon's passive moot. They might as well just let her jump distance be 2x as a passive ("anti-gravity jump boots" or some such if everyone is allowed to have her level of air control as long as they play PC).

But I disagree on the moving while looting thing. The ability to slide back and for while trying to swap things is a HUGE advantage over console or PC Controller players, as it makes you a non-moving target. Part of the reason I do NOT try to loot boxes in fights for armor swaps is it pretty much guarantees I get knocked, while the M&K players get to pull that crap, make me miss, then be full.

It's a huge advantage. And from all the videos I see on here and you tube, and the tournament I watched, armor swapping wins far more engagements than the paltry aim assist.

(Again, this aim assist is nothing. Go play Destiny 2 Crucible where the aim assist is so high I can get 10-15 kills per match by hip firing Ace of Spades or Dead Man's Tale.)

@Kyldenar Tap strafing isn't only a horizon thing. Have you ever seen players do it off a jump pad. It's ridiculous.

As for shield swapping- The players are not in the box long enough to need to move when grabbing a shield. The reason they can do it faster is because looting with a mouse is much more accurate than a controller.

@hayhor Sounds like more reason that the game should just force controller use. Makes it fair for everyone in crossplay.
  • Reluctantly I've kind of grown to accept tap-strafing over the seasons in Apex as part & parcel of being in cross-platform lobbies because unfortunately whenever I have tried the single platform option on both XboxX & PS5 there aren't enough players to fill half a lobby. From what I remember Respawn temporarily removed tap-strafing either at the start of this season or last season but received a big backlash mostly from pro-players & performed a quick u-turn because as we all know these pro-players speak with the loudest voices & hold the biggest sway with Respawn it seems.Would I completely remove tap-strafing from Apex? in an ideal world as a console player yes but in reality probably not but I would certainly limit the impact of movement a tap-strafer transcends into the excessive tap-strafing & movement exploiter has that just seems all too common in the game these days rendering the game just unplayable at times.I'm not an Apex player who is asking for easy kills by restricting every players movements providing easy targets all I've ever asked for is a more level playing field just to compete with instead of certain players who can pull off every movement exploit to excessive measure to gain the upper hand.Anyone playing Apex (as well as any other shoot'em ups) can pretty much tell a mile off these players using these exploits just through speed of movement, reaction times etc that are far quicker than everyone else & at times operating at lightning speed but it just seems these players are flourishing in the game now.But playing as a console player playing on the clunky XboxX & PS5 controllers having to contend with PC M&K tap-strafing players is one thing but us console players also have input lag issues stacked against us as well.

@Redmattgame Unless you specifically queue up with a PC player, "cross play" on console means Playstation, Xbox, and Switch. There are no PC players in your console cross-play lobbies.

    @pandareno1999 Again, this is wrong.

I am a PC player, and I have Playstation, X-Box, and PC players in my lobbies/teams all the time. And I do not usually partner up unless @reconzero is on.

@Kyldenar It isn't wrong. You as a PC player will see console players because they team up with a PC player and get placed in PC lobbies. PC people cannot control who they are with.

@Kyldenar If you see console players in you teams, that means that they are queued up together with your other random, who plays on PC.

I'm going to outline once again. There exist three types of queues in Apex:

    1) Console cross play queue. Playstation, xbox, and Switch play together.

    2) PC queue - PC players and any console players who are specifically partied up with said PC players play together.

    3) Console "cross play off." These lobbies are essentially theoretical.  They may as well not exist, because no one on console turns off crossplay. Those who do sit in an endless queue waiting for nobody.  Actually, there is one exception - apparently there are enough Switch players in Japan who turn off crossplay and can get a Switch-only lobby.

There is never a case where PC players are queued into console lobbies, and there is never a case where a solo queue console player ends up in PC lobbies. The only exceptions to this are when some PC players exploit a particular MM glitch to get into console lobbies.  This occurs in ranked from time to time, and we know about this when their bans are announced. There are also sometimes visual glitches where a player may show the incorrect icon on their banner. We saw this en masse when Gun Run debuted.

This is explicitly and officially how MM works in Apex. If someone wants to continue to dispute this, then feel free to include video proof if you would like to do so.  Otherwise you are just spreading misinformation.

@pandareno1999 Which is the console for the TV screen and controller image I sometimes see? I always thought that was a pc player playing on controller.

    @XxColdFangxX

    If you’re on PC:

The icon with a screen/monitor is a PC player either using MnK or controller. You can’t distinguish the two just by the icons. You can easily spot controller players on PC if you spectate them while they loot.

All the players with a controller icon is a console player. Again, this should not be confused with controller players playing on PC since they still have the PC icon in their banner.

    If you’re on Playstation:

You can see other players on playstation since they have the PS icon. If it’s a controller, it means either an xbox or switch player.

If you’re on Xbox or Switch:

The same with playstation. You can see the icon of other players with the same console. Cross play with other consoles will show a controller.

  • @Cheese9Man Yeah I'm on Xbox and I mostly solo que with randoms, I see the monitor with the controller a lot so I was wondering.
I'll have to check if I ever see one looting buy I mostly play arenas.

@XxColdFangxX I'm not clear on what symbol you're seeing. There is a PS logo, a controller for xbox players, and what looks like an old Mac computer for PC players regardless of their input. There's none with both.  Maybe you're seeing a Switch icon?  I confess I don't know what that one looks like.  Just as an FYI, you can't go 100% by seeing a player moving when looting.  This is possible on controller if you use certain custom button layouts, and some really good players, who have practiced certain techniques for looting a death box a lot, can swap a shield from one so quickly that you don't see them stop moving.

  • Someone... what is tap strafing ?

My guy we have aim assist, if they can’t do movement we shouldn’t be allowed to have our controller aim for us

Well this is debunked I have nothing else to say.

thought it was a current discussion this is 2-3yr old convo that the first 5 replies captured rather well     imo there are 3 main problems in Apex that need focus, this is Not one.

Glad you brought it up so I can bookmark it.
