Look, I didn't personally invent the gametype. It is what it is. If you want to play it as if there is something other than winning that matters then that's fine. I'm only saying that what is prudent and most likely to yield good results may not be the most entertaining, and that I'm good with rewarding the prudent and not rewarding the imprudent. Would my ranking system be popular? Of course not. People are fundamentally impatient and will forever try to treat this game as if it is something that it isn't. But that can't change the mainspring of this game: win or don't win. There is no try.
You are correct that the goal is to win, but you are misinformed about "how BR was meant to be played". The survival aspect means fighting and not getting killed. If you are not going to participate (aka camp) so you don't fight your way to the win then it defeats the purpose of playing the game. It's disingenuous and makes sense that people who aren't good with gunplay would promote it, copium really. Battle Royale means to fight your way to the top. Fight is the key word here, not hide. If it were up to me I'd put a penalty on players or even disqualify them for not taking part or at least meeting a minimum damage number, whether they "won" or not.
Definition of BR:
Concept of BR derived from Wikipedia:
"...the goal is to be the last player or team standing by eliminating all other opponents"
The whole concept revolves around eliminating opponents, not just waiting it out and fighting or 3rd partying the last player. Sure, you could catfish your way to a win, but does that win actually mean anything? Were you the best team on the map and showed it through actually playing and coming out on top? In short, no. Opportunistic perhaps, or even cowardly? but not skilled. In no version of the multiverse would I or anyone I've ever met reward such players.
@Palette24carats I'm with you on this one. Ain't no way camping is the way. If they increased the number of teams or made the maps smaller so these players are forced to fight more these arguments would stop dead in their tracks. This is a fps game after all, what's the point if your not gonna fight?

Actually they could reinvent the style and create mini bubbles all around the map so that the winners of those bubbles get together to fight again in bubbles that ultimately get to only 1 bubble. Would be nice to have a mode like that limits the 3rd party and forces a sort of tournament in the game.
