Really bad matchmaking. Makes the game unejoyable.

So I'm a casual player of this game and I've been playing this game for many seasons now and even though i'm not a really good player i've managed to not be a low level player bc of all these years i've been playing.. The thing is, for the first time in many seasons i'm constantly matchmaked with players of way above skills than mine... Not everyone can be a great player on this game, i'm just trying to do my daily tasks on mixtapes and pubs and i'm always having to fight against predators, people with 4k dmg and 20 bombs badges and masters, even on mixtapes. It has come to the point where i consider on uninstalling the game bc it's just unsufferable for me. My highest rank i believe is gold, i'm just not a good player and i acknowledge it but it has come to the point where i'm just really sad about the matchmaking, like just because im on high level i have to face these type of players even tho im clearly not on their skill? really sad

  • They won't do anything about it, just like the cheaters who are slowly taking over this game. We can only write to each other, but they won't do anything about it.

  • @LobasInBeach Matchmaking has been broken for years and has been made worse by cheaters and smurfs. Respawn either doesn't know how to fix it or doesn't want to.
  • Having earned a 4k- or a 20 KB-badge doesn´t automatically make you a good player:
Performance often depends on your mental state (tired, stressed, distracted by children etc.) and f.e. the server-performance.

Then, lots of players earned their badges during an event or had good support from friends.

Even lots of kills on one legend don´t make you bulletproof - I got my 27k kills on Wraith and more and more games in Apex are just sh***, because I can´t concentrate properly etc.

But I get your point: Matchmaking in Apex Legends is and has always been a disaster (and I started playing the game in S1). I mainly go SoloQ and my randoms have become even worse over the last months. There is hardly anyone taking this serious anymore or players in my squad are totally new to Apex.

Respawn will never ever manage to implement a working matchmaking that feels fair.

  • @W3stminst3r The best matches are when I see that I have quite weak teammates, the champion's unit is also quite weak, and I am killed by a master or a pred who has several dozen thousand kills on his character. :D Interestingly - I noticed that when I lose more often and see that the lobby is weaker - these new low-level people who kill me play as if they had spent several thousand hours in the game. There seems to be a lot of smurfs and cheaters at low levels who were previously banned. Just not on my team haha :D

I don't understand this matchmaking at all, but it has long since stopped being based on the skills of people in the lobby. I won't believe it. :D

I am also a solo player, because in my country it is difficult to find people who are active in the game, have lost some hours and would like to create a team (Poland). Moreover, Poles are quite nervous, and I don't need such people for voice chat.

I would like to have fun with this game, just knowing that I am playing with people who can do something. I don't think I'm that bad and I don't understand why I often get low levels without experience. At the moment in s22 my overall KD is 2.5, and in ranked games it's close to 3.0 until I reach platinum 4 (I don't like playing ranked games solo, so I usually give up after getting platinum). I will add that I am an MnK player. Controllers are black magic to me :D Someone can explain to me what this is about, because I don't understand it at all :D This season I have a 13.25% win rate in ranked games and a 11.9% win rate for the entire season (1520 games played, these numbers are certainly a bit high due to the "Straight Shot" mode, in which you win more often.). Despite this, I still mostly get quite beginner people into my lobby. What else am I supposed to do? :D

There's really nothing I can add apart from what's already been said, but I wanted to add my voice to the chorus.

The matchmaking runs anything from tolerable to really bad in the course of any given season, but this season really does feel worse than ever by a healthy margin. If Steam numbers are an indication of what's happening across all platforms, then what we're seeing is matchmaking reacting to the added strain of a population decline. Sad but inevitable.
  • By the end of the year, the average number of players will drop well below 100,000. people if Respawn doesn't do anything about the MM system and cheaters. It's a pity that Respawn doesn't understand that a new map, legend, and gameplay tweaks should be postponed and deal with what made people run away from this game.

And I feel like they're gonna wait until the game's truly dead until they take action and it's so disappointing. Like it's truly such a good game in terms of like the characters, the weapons, the maps, but I just find myself going into the game happy or with good self-esteem and then it just deteriorates because I keep getting one clipped by basically everyone in the lobby xD. Also, what's also really weird to me is that I'll have a game where I constatly die to enemies and I can't even shoot back because I'm dead before I even pull out the gun and then next game it's the easiest lobby ever, then it goes back to the sweatiest lobbies. I truly have no idea what's happening with this game but it sucks wanting to quit because of all of that.

  • What's happening is that they can't deal with cheaters at all anymore, and the matchmaking is terrible because fewer and fewer people play the game anymore.

I can lose 20 games in a row and a person with 4000 damage and 20 kills will still kill me. The sweatiest players and low levels are put into one lobby, some of whom simply cheat.

Why did they want to change the battle pass to a paid one for each split? Because they don't make much money off us anymore, because fewer and fewer people play Apex.

Instead of going the route of fixing what's wrong so that people come back to Apex, they prefer to simply make money on those who are still here. Only a fool won't notice it.

Not replying to anyone particular. Just a general comment.

Trick is to get off when the games are not going your way. On certain days you can immediately tell whether you are the hunter or the hunted. Ive noticed this applies to both ranked & pubs.
No one is forcing you to play Apex right now. Get other games to play on the side. Changing legends to something you usually dont play also helps me in terms of MM.

Also a good reality check would be in order for some of you. If your KD is better than most of the professionals playing in ALGS tournaments MAYBE just MAYBE you really are in the correct lobby facing those pred players in pubs and not stomp some below average casuals for a 20 bomb on a daily basis. I understand you have built your self an addiction with the stats related dopamine but playing some other games on the side should help with that.
