Season 13: Saviors Recap
With season 14 launching in just a few days, let's look back at what happened in season 13. Were you satisfied with this season? If you were to give this season a rating from 1 to 10 (10 being the perfect season), what rating would you give?
Personal rating: 5 out of 10
This is my least played season since maybe season 0 or season 1. The game felt boring with almost no new content.
SEASON 13: SAVIORS
Launch date: May 10, 2022
1. #ApexRankedSaved
Let's start with the biggest addition/change added to apex this season. Before the season started, an apex developer started using this hashtag to hype up the rank rework coming into this season. This rework was done to address the community's complaints of the season 12 (and past seasons) rank system to be focused more on kills and should focus more on placement. They asked some pros for their input on which aspects of the game should rank be focused on. They also added a new rank called Rookie.
On paper, almost everyone was excited (including me) for this change when it was announced. Pros loved the change as well at the start of the season until the season launched and the community started playing the new rank system. The most common complaints were that it was too grindy with an increase in RP entry costs and there was more ratting because of the prioritization of placement rather than kills. Respawn heard the complaints and reduced the entry costs by 10 by split 2. While the entry costs stung less, the general experience of the mode stayed for most people.
2. Maps
Map Rotation: World's Edge, Stormpoint, Olympus (KC vaulted)
New POI: Downed Beast
New Map feature: IMC Armories (in SP)
Do people still use these?
New POI: Lifeline's Clinic
3. New Legend: Newcastle
What do you feel about NC now? Is he a welcome addition to the roster? He had a good showing in the ALGS (9th picked legend) but is currently with the lowest pick rate with the general public.
3. LTMs
Control
Control is back but this time with a new map, Lava Siphon.
Armed and Dangerous - Snipers and shotguns only
The once popular mode came back. Not sure how many liked the LTM but the common complaint was the poor loot. We also saw the removal of LTM takeovers and this time the LTM was a separate mode.
4. Cosmetic events
I don't count these as content but here are the legendary skins from the collection event and thematic event with this season's heirloom.
5. Bugs and News
While these are not all the news around the game but this are some that I would consider as note worthy.
Crashing
At the start of the season, there were a lot of people experienced crashing during their games. This was experienced by all of the platforms but was more common in PC lobbies.
Xbox poor optimization
It took months for xbox players to get their version of the game fixed. From input delays, FPS drops, and voice chat not working properly.
Low Player Numbers
There was a time in this season where Apex (steam) had the lowest number of active players per day since season 4.
ALGS
We saw the return of the ALGS LAN! I don't really count this as part of the season but this is the best ALGS event to date.
Did I miss something? What rating would you give this season? Are you excited for season 14?
