Season 13: Saviors Recap

With season 14 launching in just a few days, let's look back at what happened in season 13. Were you satisfied with this season? If you were to give this season a rating from 1 to 10 (10 being the perfect season), what rating would you give?

Personal rating: 5 out of 10

This is my least played season since maybe season 0 or season 1. The game felt boring with almost no new content.

SEASON 13: SAVIORS

Launch date: May 10, 2022

1. #ApexRankedSaved

Let's start with the biggest addition/change added to apex this season. Before the season started, an apex developer started using this hashtag to hype up the rank rework coming into this season. This rework was done to address the community's complaints of the season 12 (and past seasons) rank system to be focused more on kills and should focus more on placement. They asked some pros for their input on which aspects of the game should rank be focused on. They also added a new rank called Rookie.

On paper, almost everyone was excited (including me) for this change when it was announced. Pros loved the change as well at the start of the season until the season launched and the community started playing the new rank system. The most common complaints were that it was too grindy with an increase in RP entry costs and there was more ratting because of the prioritization of placement rather than kills. Respawn heard the complaints and reduced the entry costs by 10 by split 2. While the entry costs stung less, the general experience of the mode stayed for most people.

2. Maps

Map Rotation: World's Edge, Stormpoint, Olympus (KC vaulted)

New POI: Downed Beast

New Map feature: IMC Armories (in SP)

Do people still use these?

New POI: Lifeline's Clinic

3. New Legend: Newcastle

What do you feel about NC now? Is he a welcome addition to the roster? He had a good showing in the ALGS (9th picked legend) but is currently with the lowest pick rate with the general public.

3. LTMs

Control

Control is back but this time with a new map, Lava Siphon.

Armed and Dangerous - Snipers and shotguns only

The once popular mode came back. Not sure how many liked the LTM but the common complaint was the poor loot. We also saw the removal of LTM takeovers and this time the LTM was a separate mode.

4. Cosmetic events

I don't count these as content but here are the legendary skins from the collection event and thematic event with this season's heirloom.

5. Bugs and News

While these are not all the news around the game but this are some that I would consider as note worthy.

Crashing

At the start of the season, there were a lot of people experienced crashing during their games. This was experienced by all of the platforms but was more common in PC lobbies.

Xbox poor optimization

It took months for xbox players to get their version of the game fixed. From input delays, FPS drops, and voice chat not working properly.

Low Player Numbers

There was a time in this season where Apex (steam) had the lowest number of active players per day since season 4.

ALGS

We saw the return of the ALGS LAN! I don't really count this as part of the season but this is the best ALGS event to date.

Did I miss something? What rating would you give this season? Are you excited for season 14?

  • I didn't include the addition of Hyperion (anti cheat software) since it was just a week ago. It did stop a lot of cheats from working but only time will tell if it would continue to do its job effectively next season.

@Cheese9Man3/10 it was like the start of season 9, but the entire season. Anyone who was there knows what I’m talking about.

  • 1/10

Only the two weeks of Control were playable.

BR worse than ever. It needs a mode between "dead teammates - have to sit and stare into a wall for 20 minutes, in an attempt of salvaging 0 rp" and "everyone drops in the same POI and punch each other over a P2020". You know, a mode where you actually get to play the game.

Dumb new legend, who's allowed to have a revive shield for some reason. Is he stealing people's rightful kills, or whatever the moaning was when Lifeline had hers? Guess not since he's about as much played as Arenas.

More dumb NPC and loot upgrade cheesing added.

Too much Valk and Seer bs. Gibby STILL not nerfed.

    Overall s13 feeling: sadge

  • 6/10. It was actually my most played season. The bugs barely ever affected me and the battle pass (i love cosmetics) was really solid. It was my first time playing armed and dangerous and control was as fun as ever. The new lifeline town takeover is one of my favorite spots to land on olympus now. However i do rate it lower than all the other seasons i played (season 10: 8/10 purely because im already nostalgic for it. Season 11: 7/10. Great season but SP and WE are my 2 least favorite maps. Season 12: 9/10.)

Also about the meta complaints, valk needs nerfs but isnt as annoying as most other legends.

Seer does not need nerfs. Before algs everyone thought he was garbage, so what changed? The fact that ALGS players used his abilities the way it was intended?
  • @Cheese9Man 5/10. The ranked changes were bad for the game, either pushing people away or into pubs making pubs worse. The map rotation was bad as SP and WE are awful experiences. They made the sniper/shotty ltm worse by removing krabers from ground loot and putting level zero sentinels in late game packages.

I added up all the ratings, and did some math to find that so far the season was a 4/10 according to these post so far lol.

@Noobby_Groovy777 I agree with the BP being really good. That BH skin looks way better than the $160 BH mythic skin. Season 14 seems to have a good set of cosmetics as well and I like the safari/hunter theme.
  • @Cheese9Man I think this was probably my least played season, but I was lucky enough to not deal with much of the audio bugs and crashing and whatnot. I haven't upgraded to next-gen yet, and the old Xbox One S has been plugging along.

I probably had the most fun this season, when Control was available. I have a blast playing that mode, and am looking forward to it returning , hopefully sooner than later!

I'd probably put it around 5/10. I am still having fun playing, but I have a lot less free time for gaming these days. I just wish there was more LTM's and stuff going on, to keep the game more fresh. It definitely felt like somewhat of a boring season to me. Not terrible, just somewhat boring.

If I had dealt with more of the issues I read about throughout the season, I would be singing a different tune. I have been lucky though, and the Arena shop bug is the only one I can really remember, aside from the weird, glitched out drop ship that happens from time to time. That has been happening since before this season though, so I can't hold that against it
