Sniper Guides

Are there any good sniper guides that are up to date? I only recently started playing carrying one sniper weapon as some friends I play with do that. Normally I would only run a mid range and short range gun.

Funny this thread popped back up. I've actually convinced my friends to stop with all the sniping for the most part. All it does is get you attacked from 3 sides.

  • @hayhorWell I frequently play with a mid range sniper on WE, rarely use them on KC.

    Sniper guns I prefer..

    1. Longbow
    2. Triple take (if I have a choke).
    3. Charge rifle
    4. Sentinel

The absolute best is the Kraber.

All guns have strengths and weaknesses. The Sentinels weakness is its fire rate. It’s strength is the damage and it’s ability to drop shields entirely with 1 shot.

The charge rifle has two, 1. The laser beam gives your exact location away to everyone who can see it. So be prepared to get rushed. 2. The other is the charge up to the initial damage. So you have to be able to track targets as it zaps them.

Triple take, it really needs the choke to be effective at range. Some benefits, it can be decent as a shotgun in CQC (don’t rely on it though). It has very little bullet drop. Head shots will do over 100 damage, you can definitely 2 shot kill people with it.

Longbow is my absolute favorite. Decent fire rate. I’ve head shot people for 126 with it. Bullet drop is the worst. It also needs more attachments.

Best scopes IMO are 2x-4x or 3x. I prefer the 2x-4x.

The 6x is by far the best long range scope I rarely snipe at long range though. If I do carry a 6x, i pair it with a 2x or 1x-2x. I keep the 1x-2x on the gun and swap it for the 6x when I need it. Yeah it sucks losing inventory.. but if you’re sniping you won’t need that extra nade.

I keep between 32-48 rounds of sniping ammo. It depends on how we are playing and rotating the map. If you’re camping with a wattson/caustic you’ll need the 48 rounds. If you’re moving around a lot you can carry less because you’ll be able to loot more as you move around the map.

When I snipe I carry no nades, but huge stacks of cells and batteries. If you get into an extended snipe out, who ever has the largest stack of cells/batts wins.

I’ll come back a bit later with details on how to get good at landing shots and Map positioning and some tips on how learn bullet drop and make adjustments.

@hayhor The 4x-8x is a great scope to learn how to adjust for bullet drop based on distance. When you use it, it will show you the range the target is at. If you look down the vertical line of the crosshair you'll see multiple dots. The first one is for 100M, the second is for 200M third is for 300M. Those dots are adjusted depending on the gun using, you'll notice there is a larger space between them when its on the longbow. How ever they are clumped tightly together on the triple take.

So if your target is at 100M you want the target lined up with the 100M dot. If the target is around 150M you want the crosshair lined up about half way between the 100M and 200M dots.

You can make similar adjustments with the 2x-4x but it's not as detailed and it won't show you the range of your targets. It will take some trial and error to learn but it can be done. I'd practice with a friend in the firing range or just turn the dummies on grab two snipers, scopes then zip up to the top of one of the platforms.

Movement, I'm on console so I just sit their and rotate the movement thumb stick in a circle. It gives you enough movement to make it more difficult for someone to hit. But the movement is fairly steady on your end so it's easier to track targets. I also do side to side movement, but that takes a lot more practice to learn and only do it with snipers who are as good or better shots than I am. In this instance you do NOT want your movement to be predictable or they will time the shot.

You might consider working with the triple take at first, it's probably the easiest sniper to use aside from the charge rifle. It will also help build skills that you'll need to learn for the Longbow or sentinel. You won't learn those skills with the charge rifle.

Map position.. Higher places are your friend. As you get better at sniping you can be a little more bold with the locations you pick. You don't want to sit on top of an area with little to no cover unless you can out shoot people who spot you there. I have no issue sitting on top of the rocks around Epicenter and sniping but it took me a while to get there.

You might try and hang around the edge of the ring. After round 1 you probably won't have to worry about people coming out of the storm and shooting you in the back.

If ring is going to be at Thermal I will typically fly on top of the center tower at thermal and snipe away. If I can snipe at sorting factory I'll fly on top of one the cranes in the area or have a path zip me up there.

Snipers are not bad guns, but they will draw attention to your location. The longer the shoot out the more likely you are to be third partied. But it's really no different then any fight you get into. People hear the fight, they are going to run towards it. This is where location is key. You want to be in a position so that your squad is the least likely of the two to get third partied. You can then pick off the two other teams. You'll probably get most of your kills as a sniper from third partying..

The big issue with running a sniper is that your squad typically won't. If they don't they won't be willing to play a strategy that favors snipers.

They also work good at beating up a team then rushing them while they are popping cells/batts. They are damaged you are not.
