There has to be some kind of exploit/cheat to see where people are

I'm going to provide the full story just because I feel like it.

I started playing Apex Legends today with a goofy mindset. All I wanted to do was to use fuse, find a purple backpack and stack up on all kinds of grenades. I know, it's silly and it was more so meant as a few joke rounds to have some fun. besides, it WAS fun watching people freak out as you barrage them with Thermite grenades. Even scored some kills when I got my hands on the Kraber because I'm good with snipers and stuff.

Fast forward a few minutes of grenade search and eventually I found myself at Skyhook. No one seemed to be there, and the third ring was closing in - it was directly on top of Skyhook. So I chose the smallest, most unobvious house of them all and hid inside there. Only 3 teams remaining consisting of me and two enemy teams, presumably all 3 being full squad. I heard one squad having a combat inside the tunnel between Skyhook and the train station. I haven't seen the other squad.

I thought to myself... "You know what? I'm going to attempt to win with only grenades" - So I continued to hide. Ring 4 countdown was starting and I heard some distant footsteps. Which was great because that could mean a fight is going to happen soon. Just to note it beforehand, whenever I hide inside buildings, I try my best to stay away from any door or any window to not be seen. Otherwise hiding wouldn't make sense. And I assume when I don't see enemies, they cannot see me either.

The footsteps were coming closer, stopped for a moment, then resumed.

They came into my building. I was panicking a little, not just because they chose one of the 7 buildings that were "inside" the ring, the exact building that I was in, but the one the next ring wasn't going to be on top of all the way. This is where the weird things happened. They came upstairs, I was behind a corner so they literally could only seen me with Bloodhound. All I saw next were two people shooting at me directly with their weapons. I didn't even have the chance to process what just happened, I was just dead.

And when I think back, that's how I (and my team) died a lot of times. With people knowing exactly where you are despite you not physically seeing them.

So here is the thing. If there is really an exploit or a cheat that allows you to see people through walls or see their location at all times, I feel like a ton of deaths could be avoided if it was removed/made impossible. Because not just does it seem to be undetectable, but in a lot of cases too subtle.

Has anyone made similar experiences?

@Peri_Longbow_plz If you are on PC there is a thing called wall hacks that shows the enemy where you are. As far as I know this doesnt happen on console.

Without video tho we have no idea what happened. Perhaps you moved and swapped items and that little bit of sound drew them to you because as you mentioned they were close. Then once inside the building an experienced player might know the rat spots they will find people.

@Peri_Longbow_plz I do feel that sometimes enemies who have no sniper rifle (and I do) somehow have the miraculous ability to see exactly where I am even though I am crouched behind cover. Before I can get off a shot with my sniper, they are hitting me with single AR shots.

That said, there are a lot of variables.

Did they have a Valk on their team? This may have shown them where you were.

Was the building you chose advantageously located for the next ring? Another clue.

Are you sure one of their teammates couldn't have see you through one of the windows?

@LaughingSharko On me were a Wraith and a Pathfinder. I didn't see the third one, but the chances are 1:15 that it has been a Valk. It wasn't a Bloodhound either, so there's that. No, they couldn't have seen me through windows because I avoided visibility through windows entirely. The only they they could have seen me is by using a Bloodhound scan. So hence, Valk couldn't have seen me either.

@Peri_Longbow_plz The only thing I could gather from this post was: I did good stuffz with the Kraber cause I B good with sniperz! You overachiever!

But you’re wrong in one assessment tho. Sometimes they can see you when you can’t see them. For instance with some containers (not a you example just an overview one). Some containers cover a legend as a whole, but some legends are taller or fatter than others. So if you try to look past it the only thing you’ll see is a big container, but enemies might still see the top of your head sticking out and can hurt you.

^ is why I never peek cause usually I’m unsure what is sticking out if I’m at an obstruction.

But for your thing, it might be multiple things... it might be that they heard some shuffling, might be hax, they might’ve even heard your legend say a quip like “in the ring already”.

@Koochi-Q Wait, can enemies actually hear this kind of quips? I thought it's for teammates only

@Koochi-Q I don't think automatic quips can be heard by enemy players. That would be a massive disadvantage if that happened. I know this is the case when you use a manual mocking quip. But your character saying "The ring is closing in ten" cannot be heard. At least in my 700 hours of playing I haven't heard it a single time from anyone else but my team. Same goes for shuffling. Maybe reloading and rejuvenating, but I was fully reloaded and full health.
It's not even that it happened. It's about how often this happens. If things like these were a one-time thing, I wouldn't question it. The possibility of someone stumbling across your hiding spot is always there, just not particularly high. But since this happens semi regularly, especially in situations where there is no way someone would think to check that particular spot, then it becomes unbelievable that it's legitimate. This actually happened earlier. I ran into a building, suspecting nothing. I ran inside, looted some only to be shot by a crouching Loba in the corner that - once again - no one would check. Of course I died because she clearly had the advantage. I bet some other squad would have immediately rushed at her and found her before they even entered the building.
Of course some people are paranoid and probably check every corner. But to me, unless I see some obvious signs someone could be there or I hear something, I don't bother to check. Especially not every corner when I run through a city where there's various places to hide in.

@NolanGraysonnn & @Peri_Longbow_plz makes sense. I always thought that they could hear it just like normal quips... good to know this piece of info as sometimes when I’m skulking I get paranoid that they’ll hear those quips and figure out where I am xD.

But the container thing has happened alot. I don’t even hide behind them anymore cause sometimes I’m hardly out of cover or am just about to peek and I’m already getting shot at. No way human reflexes are that fast. Heck I don’t even quite register I’m out but get shot at xD.

Don’t get me started about corner campers... I still have to upload a vid of one xD... I’m the same. If I don’t think anyone is near, I don’t check every nook and cranny... then get shot by 2 ppl hiding in corners...

@Peri_Longbow_plzValk's ultimate can pinpoint your location.
Wait, forgot that only works with LOS, so no. Also, there's Crypto's drone, but that only tracks you through walls if it can see you.
Too bad it was last squad, otherwise you could have spectated to see for sure and report if it was a wallhack.

@Peri_Longbow_plz I'm like you. Sometimes I do that thing where I run inside a building and turn a corner, and there's an enemy also turning the corner and grabbing loot, and we both do a double take ... and then we start shooting each other ... probably would've been better to go in armed, lol.

@Peri_Longbow_plz It could have been cheating. It also could have been people who play a ton. You start to learn the hiding places and places to look for campers. Also keep in mind if you cycle between weapons, they can hear that.
