There Should Be Non-Aim Assisted Lobbies

I continue to see an increasing argument that aim assistance and/ or its inclusion is fine, but that derives mostly from individuals that either A: use it personally and/ or B: Haven't used mouse & keyboard directly.

The debate about aim assistance is common, but most conversations are (mostly) biased from the beginning. Meaning the majority of users that use aim assistance are protecting it and/ or automatically assume that mouse & keyboard is easy to use without any direct personal experience.

Not saying all discourse on this subject is absolutely identical, but it's close to what I've seen on the subject.

Another argument is the potential for mouse & keyboard is higher than that of controller, but that's not a sound argument as no one can suggest something is better just because of possible potential.

Aim assist worked in the early years for video games that were meant to be enjoyed in a casual sitting, but in multiplayer games with multiple different input devices, it simply doesn't work.

Sure there isn't a simple fix to this situation, but not dealing with it doesn't do anything. I say let the developers and/ or controller companies work out a fix for this, as they're the ones who created it to market their games.

I get on a business level that aim assist allows the casual individual to do better without the sacrifice of practice, but at the end of the day, someone is on the receiving end of said assists.

Either Apex Legends gets input based matchmaking, or a non aim assisted lobby.

What this would do is allow new mouse & keyboard players the time and/ or space to get better without interference. With games trying to be centered around competition, In my opinion, there is no competition while aim assistance is involved.

Reminder, I kindly ask anyone that comments on this article to be kind to anyone from any standpoint you may have. If you can't, please refrain from posting. Troll and/ or posts that waste individuals time with nonsensical comments will be reported swiftly.

I'm saying that because they're people that try to quash articles like this once they are posted so others can't have an open discourse on the subject.

I’m a console player. I’ve read and participated in many discussions on aim assist. While I do still think that MnK is (overall) the optimal input for shooters, I absolutely agree that having multiple inputs damages the “competitive integrity” of the game.

The fact that PC players cannot opt out of crossplay always rubbed me the wrong way. I feel like the INDIVIDUAL should have a choice. Who cares that I think MnK is more advantageous than controller— the player should have the ability to select an experience based on their own opinion on the matter.

Throughout human history people have mistakenly wanted segregation based on labels. This goes for race, gender and all kinds of other things.
I view this argument the same. Why should 1 input be considered the correct one to use? I get that people want to blame their deaths on something but how about the devs keep trying to balance all inputs so they are all competitive, rather than divide the community? All dividing the community will do is make queue times longer and lead to arguments about who is really better at the game because those players will no longer be playing against each other.

@hayhor Good stuff there. I will say though on pc our queue times are the exact same as they were before cross-play came into play. So I am not sure why the forceful mergers is there I don't suspect its from queue times. I just get a little confused why respawn gave us an opt out button then removed it. Speculation is all i can provide answer for that call and it would be most opted out and did not want to play with consoles unless they chose to. So the option was taken away to cater to those queue times of those who wanted cross-play.

Again all speculated guesses. Only so many speculated reasons though as to why that option would be removed. I agree dont divide the players but give the players a choice. If some want to sit in queue for 30 seconds to minutes that is on them if they want very fast queues they join cross-play. Just allow the player an option.

@KYSOMTConsole player here, I have played on pc. I’ve played with pc, and I’ve been in controller only lobbies.
I can guarantee you right away that aim assist is not the issue, but that would turn you away quicker than I could say cross progression, so I’ll say this:
I’ve played pc, it was super fun and felt very fast. I stick with controller becase it’s what I’ve been used to for a long time, and already had account progress not worth giving up. Entry level pc can be rough, there’s so much fine tuning and special movements you can make to the point where it’s easy to see that controller playing is a dumbed down version.
I’ve played controller in pc lobbies, and you can bet that respawn threw everything at me, I was getting tap strafed like nothing else. Playing in pc lobbies is not my favorite experience, but I enjoy playing with my friends that don’t have console.
Finally, I’ve played controller in controller only lobbies, the skill difference is startling. I would say the main reason they don’t allow an opt out option for cross play on pc is the lack of players. It would be impossible to maintain q times and if it tried to still get good q times, it would pull players from everywhere and players wouldn’t like it. Messing with AA or tap strafing (the same problem basically) would be bad for respawn as players would leave very quick. Even if you added a no AA lobby, there would be call for more things, like a no pc movement lobby. I’m already appalled with the option to change AA in custom lobbies. Making a lobby with no AA would only cause more strife between the communities.

@KYSOMT its mostly problem on higher tier competitive, where u get one clipped up close... there are far more cheaters then good aass... would prefer remove console crossplayers or make an option to opt out from such lobbies...
just play ranked as non ranked... just get bp skins (free) and stop caring

I couldn't agree more. All users should have a place they can enjoy without interruptions. The users should have a choice where and/ or how they play. With gaming at its core an entertainment division, I feel it's right that the individual should have a choice in how they enjoy it themselves.

If someone wants to play input based matchmaking, let it be. If someone wants to play with all input devices at once, also let it happen. Why should developers (who may never play the title in question) choose the decisions for so many.

@E9ine_AC Cross play is a whole different subject for me. To me you should be able to turn that off no matter what platform you are on.

It takes time to get decent with a mouse & keyboard compared to a controller. The player that is learning might give up the mouse & keyboard if they see how others are using controllers.

Mouse & keyboard, mouse mat and have enough desk space compared to just picking up a controller plus having aim assistance is convincing to the average gamer.
Controller users can choose who they play against by choosing PC or console (someone would have to purchase a console to play controller only, but the option is still there). Mouse & keyboard users currently do not have this ability.

On the subject of letting the developers figure a way to allow both to coexist isn't so simple. The average controller gamer might find it quite stressful to use a controller without the use of aim assistance, so it's unrealistic that Respawn would choose to just totally disable its use. From the mouse & keyboard point of view, just lowering the level of aim assistance might not satisfy the average user/s.

In my mind, I think aim assistance works beyond what it should be, like on-screen effects and/ or objects like grass etc. So if Respawn were to curve these issues, it could help the two coexist. Like, allowing aim assistance to work through all Legends skills shouldn't happen. It doesn't on some, but it does on others. When a user can't physically see, aim assistance shouldn't as well.

I don't agree that giving mouse & keyboard input based matchmaking would decrease que times, but might actually do the opposite. I think a bunch of mouse & keyboard users quit Apex Legends because of this issue altogether. If they have the option to choose, I would think some of them would return.
